Whatever this is, I'm sorry that it's happened, but I'm glad that things are being worked out. Zoria has always seemed to me less someone that one interacts with and more someone that one acts for. It never occurred to me what it might be like working on something with him at the top.

I think the most important question would be whether the council wants to let ZC remain what it is and continue to tweak it, or whether they want to make something else out of it. ZC is basically DOS software held together with duct tape and coagulated fanboy sweat, forced to work (more or less) on modern operating systems by what I can only assume to be black magic.

Barring a complete removal of Nintendo IP and direct references thereto, along with a program rewrite and a complete severing of ties with the program's infringement-laden and infringement-dependent roots, I would strongly advise against Steam. Even if Nintendo references are removed from the program itself, it would still lead people back to our databases of IP infringement galore. I like that we have avoided a C&D letter for two decades and see little reason to court one.

Some future, Zelda-free name suggestions that were going around on Discord:

  • ZQuest Classic (Technically, if you look in the "About" for 2.53/2.55, this lists the programs as ZQuest Creator and ZQuest Classic Player - so this would make those branding names too)
  • ZC (Where the letters don't stand for anything - it's just "ZC")
  • ZClassic (Recursive name containing itself)

I'm sure there were more as well, but those are the ones I remember.

Voting for just ZC for history purposes.

I also agree with just ZC, it's what everybody already calls it anyway. Other names for it would just a little tacky imo.

Call it Zinc. Short, catchy, still has "ZC" name-energy.

I like "ZC" for the player and "ZQuest" for the editor. "ZQuest Classic" is super confusing (given the editor's been called ZQuest for so long) and I honestly feel like we should just throw out the "ZQuest Creator" and "ZQuest Creator Player" nomenclature entirely for being extremely confusing and arbitrary.

Hard no. It still means something outside of ZC but has literally zero meaning within the ZC community, it's a word that nobody already uses to refer to ZC, and - imo - it just kind of sounds stupid.

Zoria's appeal process has officially begun according to War Lord.  We are setting up the room and evidence.  War Lord will make the floor rules, and we will go from there.  It will be a slow process and not rushed.  If you have any questions about the process please ask tim on Discord since my role in the appeal is now officially done.  I want to focus on more positive matters from this point on.

Please start discussing topics like a name change and website for the new organizaton

I would love to be involved with making the website! It's the best I can give back for all of the years I've happily used ZC.
(can whoever is in charge of that PM me about it?)

Regarding the name, I also like ZC or perhaps Zquest Creator (ZC short)? Maybe we should create a different topic and eventually a poll to decide.

Edit: here are some examples of what I'm capable of:

...a name change?
I always thought that the editor and the player don't need different names.
Some might think zclassic and zquest were two seperate systems.

Both (Player and Editor), are always bundeled in one parent zip/rar folder.
...this compressed, downloadable Zip bundle should be name giving.
...call it ZC (or anything else) and the included player/editor exe files, can simply be named "editor.exe" and "player.exe".

Just my personal opinion.
...hope I found the right words.

Personally I like "ZQuest Classic Editor" / "ZQuest Classic Player", with "ZQuest Classic" as the name for the package. (Which, conveniently, is only one word changed from what Zoria already had set in the source)

Do we REALLY need "Quest" AND "Classic"?
...Why not "ZClassic Player" and "ZClassic Editor"?
...or "ZQuest Player" and "ZQuest Editor"?

So, there'll be no doubt that theese two programms are for one, same system.

And ZQuest Classic (+ Player or Editor) is just damned looooong.

"ZQuest Classic" -> ZC as an abbreviation

the other options don't have that.

We had lengthy discussions about this, well over a year ago; with Zoria included. The only thing I'd change from what he had is "Editor" instead of "Creator", because it's more clear

Just throwing it out there, maybe with the name change the player and editor can become two separate entities and names...

But that's putting the cart before the horse maybe......

I don't like the idea of having separate names for the two things, unless the name difference is just delineating the player from the editor. It's one game engine, it's not like you're gonna use ZQ for another engine that you actually play in.
