Have you ever known a Russ or a Moosh to release a quest and then leave it instead of coming back and picking at it for months? After a lot of work, a lot of procastinating, and a lot a semi-private testing, we're happy to announce Stellar Sea's first major update.

Randomizer Mode

Stellar Seas now has a fully function randomizer. To access it, create a new save with the file name "SSRAND". There's lots of cool features I wanna go over here. For starters, it's got a total of six playable characters. Soren, Terry, and Siyed have all been fully fleshed out with complete arsenals and augments. A run can have anywhere from 3-6 characters depending on your options.

Next, we have a costume system. In randomizer mode, the chapel in Pala Bay has been replaced with an outfit store, which sells 5 costume pieces (divided into shirts, pants, accessories, and dyes) per run. These will persist between playthroughts, so each run unlocks more customization options. Mix and match to your heart's content.

The randomizer has two main modes. In standard, the goal is to reach and defeat the final boss. You can set the final dungeon to be open from the start, locked until you've found all the characters in the seed, or locked until you've found the required number of hymnstones. In hymnstone hunt, your goal instead is simply to find the required number of hymnstones as quickly as possible. A barrel in Asher's house will take you straight to the final boss, who can drop up to four hymnstones, if you're feeling bold. In both modes, Kaylani's grandmother, Winno, will give you hints for the locations of major items, refreshing her hints every ten minutes, while the shady merchant in Pala Bay will sell you a mystery item for 300 gold.

An additional option, Beastiary Randomizer, also exists. If this is enabled, the bestiary entries obtained for defeating an enemy for the first time are also mixed into the pool, meaning that tracking down rare enemies can also nab you items. Collecting an enemy's bestiary entry will multiply all damage dealt to them by 1.5.

As with all our randomizers, we're always looking to improve them based on user feedback. Got suggestions? We'd love to hear them!

And other fixes

We've fixed most of the bugs that have been reported since initial release, which amounts mostly to a small mountain of typos and some other misc issues. We've also added a few quality of life fixes and balance changes. Most notably:

  • There's now a point to heal and revive fallen party members at the start of all major dungeons.
  • Stellaire is more useful and consumes less MP.
  • Torrin's batteries can now be quickly swapped using the map button while viewing the subscreen.

The update is live now on the PureZC database. Please note that this update will break any existing save files.
