Hey y'all, welcome to another tiny update thread!

Just like the last one, it's another big systems script completed. This time, it's potions! The script was based on Moosh's database script, but has a lot of rewrites and added stuff specific to Crucible Crest. Here's a short video showing off some of them...

  • Red Potions: Classic, never out of style, they just put the hearts back in the bar.
  • Green Potions: Because Crucible Crest uses a constantly regenerating magic meter, a straight up magic restoration potion doesn't really work for us. So instead, the green potion makes anything that costs magic free for the duration of the effect! This has the potential to make several items really devastating.
  • Blue Potions: Combines the effects of red and green, just like the color blue does??
  • Fairies: Works just like you'd expect as well.
  • Gold Potions: My favorites, these make you impervious to damage for the duration of the effect.

Status effects from green / gold potions are integrated with cutscenes and scripted menus so that their durations never run down when the game takes control away, extending their use.

Of course, you need a shop to buy these from - if you played the demo, you may remember Maple was getting it ready.

This is all really impressive. I also weep for your game's balance. Green and gold potions both sound absolutely incredible.

 

(Also while not the point of the update, gotta say the screens shown in the video look absolutely gorgeous.)

The potions are, of course, awesome, but I want to point out how much I love the interior of Maple's house. It actually gives me inspiration for making houses.

Yeah, there's a reason why the buff durations are not set in stone yet which is.... I have no idea how good some of these will be, haha.  

 

The gold potion feels okay to me in the sense that if you compare it to like, a full heal blue potion - you'd have to take your entire health bar in damage for the duration of the effect for it to be more effective.  It also has a negative synergy with the damage reduction rings (whereas normal healing potions get better in that regard).  That's not the only way to look at the potion utility so I don't want to be too reductive - but we are thinking of such balance things in designing the systems.
