Should I leave in the leafy transparent over layer? It doesn't feel quite right to me.

 

This is inside a dungeon, BTW.

You should fix the grass. There's a 2x2 grass pattern near the top of the combo list , and you're supposed to put it down in a grid pattern for grass. It'll make the screen look much better.

Which colors for the lava do you guys like better? The more muted one, or the bright and on fire one? I like them both, but I wish I could get it to cycle colors. The pieces of cooler/ hotter rock glow, but the lava itself does not glow. That's an animation project I'm not willing to undertake though. I may settle for a palette in the middle here. Imo, the left one is too muted, the yellows should pop more, but the right one is over saturated, and is almost too much. This stuff looks a LOT better in motion. I dunno how to make gifs though.

This is also one of the very rare shots where every tile on the screen was drawn by me. (And I know the lava is missing outer-corner pieces. There's just.. so many frames >.>)

 

Oh, yeah, walkable spaces? Who needs those? 

 

EDIT: Since someone is probably going to ask what those big purple.. things are, well, my idea was that they are essentially giant crystallized bubbles of some weird ore that seeps up through the lava, depositing them like this. I'm not exactly happy with the coloring, but I feel that there is a stark lack of big objects in ZC, outside of trees, and stuff from ALttP.

edit: Oh no he didn't just Lava Reef it. It gets cooler?

The walls look washed out without the typical black outline and the pillars/soldiers melt into the ground colorwise.

That's kind of the point. I'm trying to avoid using black outlines, or outlines in general with this project. :P

Thanks :). The final palette I settled with is closer to the first one. I'm not going to show it off yet, it needs a little more time in the oven. The blue one was just me messing around, and trying to come up with a palette that would look like all this molten crystal/ rock had cooled on the surface, much like Lava Reef Zone Act 2 in Sonic3&K.
