How do I get the barriers down in front of the boss door on Peahat Island?

You have to explore an entirely different part of the level and find another passage leading to the bottom floor.

stuck on forest maze, tried everything with the stupid compass and I cannot get through it

The directions you've been given are correct, but they are relative to what the compass says in each screen.

I still cannot get it. No matter how many times I tried to follow.

You have to look at your compass in every screen (you can equip it to make it quicker), and remember the red arrow points to the north. So, for example, if north is on the left side and the instructions tell you to go east, you must go up.

It's easier than that. The solution is given to you literally, you just have to make a note of the important words and discard all the others.

Monastery key problem, I cleared every room I can get to of enemies, completed the red room puzzle, got the key that is up from the start, been through every warp portal I can reach. Bombed every wall I can.  I cannot complete the 4 candle rooms because of lack of a key.  What is eye missing

Hard to say. The floor's plan is symmetrical, if that helps you figure out what rooms you haven't visited.
