NJF Plays Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom

cvmepoA.jpg?1

Genre: Action, Platformer.
Released on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991.
Developed and Published by Tecmo.

Description:

Ninja Gaiden III is part 3 in the original NES trilogy, however it serves as a sequel to the first game and a prequel to the 2nd game, putting this game in between the two chronologically. This game is considered among fans the black sheep of the original trilogy for introducing limited continues, as if Ninja Gaiden wasn't hard enough. The physics change, especially how gravity works in this game was also criticized, some fans noting that Ryu feels "floaty". However, there are other upgrades such as an upgrade to the sword that adds to the gameplay experience of this game over its predecessors. This game was also criticized by reviewers for being overly outlandish, inconsistent level design, and difficulty.

Ninja Gaiden III eliminates infinite spawning enemies, but spawns them more strategically, forcing players to take a more tactical approach to this game than its predecessors. If you are not careful, you'll find yourself ganged up on easily by enemies in this game, making this the only true Ninja Gaiden game where health really seems to matter.

"The player controls Ryu Hayabusa as he is framed for the murder of Irene Lew and investigates the circumstances behind her death. He eventually discovers a plan by CIA agent Foster and another person named Clancy to utilize an interdimensional rift to create and control a race of energy-infused superhuman mutants." (Quoted from Wikipedia)

Despite this game introducing some flaws, it's strengths to me outweigh those flaws and I feel it's tactical side to gameplay is preferable to me personally. This game also has what I think is the most epic level in NES history.

These three titles are amongst my favourite FC/NES titles, for sidescrolling fast-action. I'll watch this LP (and the previous two) if for no better reason than to see if you are a more solid player, than me. :D
