- 1:09 (Calatia 009) - special item [Rupee (20)]
I have no clue why this is here!
- 1:11 (Calatia 018) - secret money
There was going to be a Whistle->Stairs effect here (and before that, a Whistle->Dry Lake effect), but then I took out the default whistle and didn't put in anything equivalent. In hindsight, I suppose I could've made it a Secret Toot thing of some sort, though.
- 1:1B (Calatia 028) - special item [Rupee (50)]
This was going to be a chest on the vine cliff instead of just a rupee, but I figured this made it more beetle-accessible. It seems you can also access it with the ladder, but this messes with changing on/off of the town DMap, so you can mess with the music this way.
- 1:38 (Calatia 057) - special item [Rupee (20)]
This is getable in the finished game, but only if you cut the bushes with the sword, because it's an old-fashioned flag that Zelda's bush-cutting arrows don't interact with.
- 1:57 (Calatia 088) - special item [Secret Seashell]
I think this was going to be a dig secret where the P-Bag is now, but I removed it at some point and added the seashell under the switch hook diamond instead.
- 1:68 (Calatia 105) - secret money
Originally, the tree blocking the entrance didn't exist, and instead you could burn one of the four corner trees (the bottom right I think). It had a woman underneath who told you where to take the mushroom, and gave you 20 rupees; but it's dummied out now.
- 1:6F (Calatia 112) - special item [Secret Seashell]
I can't remember where this was supposed to be. I think maybe there was going to be a cave, like there is one screen to the left, or maybe there were stairs or a chest in place of the heart piece? I dunno.
- 1:73 (Calatia 116) - take one [Rupee (5), Piece of Power, Guardian Acorn]
This got replaced by the stairs that warp you to the left area towards the Bombchu shop.
- 2:57 (Calatia 086 @ bridge) - special item [Rupee (50)]
I seem to recall I was going to have some kind of treasure chest here in an extremely early draft? I'm not sure. It's a sideview screen, so that wouldn't really work right in a vanilla ZC setup, I don't think.
- 3:34 (Yamauchi 053) - special item [Rupee (50)]
I think maybe there was going to be a chest in here at one point?
- 3:3E (Nakago 063) - special item [Magic Jar 2 (Large)]
I don't remember how this was supposed to appear, or why. It might've had to do with the boss fight.
- 3:48 (Tezuka 073) - special item [Secret Seashell]
This was going to be in a chest, but isn't.
- 4:53 (Soejima 084) - special item [Rupee (1)]
This looks like some kind of accident, like I probably didn't mean to set the room type at all.
- 6:63 (Hyrule N 100) - secret money
This is semi-gettable, if you somehow goof up the game into letting you enter one of the 'Calatia towns' on the miniature Calatia. It's the Houlihan room! Sort of. Not really a legitimate recreation though. I'm not really sure how you'd get here without walk through wallks, but I could imagine some oddness with partner throwing or hookshot-dancing your way through walls or something. Maybe Dimentio knows a way?
- 7:37 (Hyrule S 056) - special item [Fairy]
I can't remember this one. Might've had to do with the boat?
- 7:3B (Hyrule S 060) - special item [Secret Seashell]
I think there was going to be a bombable cave in the swamp, but I removed it. That, or some kind of treasure chest at the end of the river (where the new seashell secret is, the sideview screen with the two Geru and the water).
- 7:45, 13:06 (Hyrule S 070) - special item [Shield L-2]
This was going to be a diveable item. The original version of the ZII Hyrule map I made is pretty old; I made it for another cancelled version of what became Panoply of Calatia back in like 2014. That abandoned draft of a quest was going to have flippers, not the water boots.
Incidentally, I think I still have some of my cancelled drafts floating around. They have a few ideas that didn't make it in here, but were never polished enough to really release as a demo or anything.
- 8:70 (???) - shop [Bombchu (100), Acorn Ring]
Map 8 is full of abandoned nonsense (mostly the Boss Rush). This Subrosian shop was going to be in the Northwest corner of Calatia (there were going to be three 8x8 maps of Calatia originally). You were going to reach it by rafting up the waterfalls where the little Bow-Wow who wants the ribbon in the trading sequence is now; that's why there's a four-item check on that screen, similar to the check to reach (south) West Calatia from the East. (There were no plans for a Northeast Calatia, though, so the whole place would've been kinda L-shaped.)
The Tower of Seline was going to be located in Northwest Calatia, and the place that currently has it was going to be where you obtained the Book of Mudora (which, rather than telling you enemy names, was just going to be a macguffin needed to enter the tower. You were also going to fight Link's shadow here, rather than in the Great Palace.
I didn't get very far designing Northwest Calatia before writer's block/map designer's block killed it, and I instead decided to just go straight to the Hyrule stuff that I wanted to include anyway.
Also, screen 8:41, which is a copy of the tennis game screen with a darknut, is an abandoned minigame I wanted to make which was basically an alternate tennis game where you played against an opponent. So it was pretty much going to actually be pong, instead of 'single player alternating pong' like the finished game is. The idea was originally to have both minigames. I kind of liked the idea of putting a minigame in each Hyrule town, but I didn't design enough of them to do so, so I just put them in easy-to-reach locations (so not Darunia, Kasuto, or New Kasuto).
- 11:60 (Seaside 097) - ShovelSecret [Secret Seashell]
I have no idea how this was supposed to work, but it looks pretty deliberate! Bizarre.
- 17:1E (???) - shop [Bombchu (100), Acorn Ring]
I think this is a result of copy-paste oversight from when I was making the town (I must've edited it out of a copy of a screen that had the shop). This screen is actually used by the ZII healer lady in Ruto, which I designed a bit oddly so that they involve warping you to another screen (I don't really remember why I did that though).
- 17:68 (Hyrule S 056 @ ship) - special item [Rupee (200)]
This was simply going to be a treasure chest instead of the Hurricane Spin scroll. I think that might've been all that was on the ship at one point? I'm pretty sure the similar chest one screen to the right was added to replace this.
