This is update to an older thread by Alestance. Thanks to him and the people who contributed to that thread over the years. This thread doesn't include links to any of Pure's databases (Loose Tiles, Tilesets, Music), since most people here probably know where those are.

If you have any links to resources, feel free to share them in this thread! Similarly, if a link in this thread ever breaks or needs updating, reply to this thread or PM me and I'll fix it.

Graphics
  • The Spriters Resource - By far the best source for video game graphic rips online. Still frequently updated. Please try to pay attention to and respect the ripper's wishes when it comes to asking for permission and credit, though - most rippers will want to be credited for their work. You can include the rippers' names in the Credits section of your submission.
  • VGMaps - It's intended to be for maps, of course, but the maps are generally in a rippable format and usable for tiles as well. You should probably credit the rippers, if possible.
  • Ether's Metamode Rips - Ether did a bunch of rips of the game Metamode for her LP. It's good for Game Boy style quests.
MIDIs
Video Game Music
  • VGMusic - Probably the oldest Video Game MIDI resource on the Internet, and the most complete. Has been a mainstay of the ZC community for as long as ZC it's existed. Highly recommended.
  • Cranium7's Nintendo Supersite - Very old, but might have some MIDIs not available on VGMusic.
  • Charas Project - Mostly video game music, but also has a lot of original compositions and other miscellaneous MIDIs.
Original
  • Espilan's Website - Many of his MIDIs can also already be found on our music database.
  • OriginalMidiPack - A collection of around 500 MIDIs. I'm not sure of the source of this pack - this might have been uploaded by Alestance originally, since it was posted in his thread? If anyone has any information on this pack, let me know.
Other
  • Free Midi - A lot of MIDI sequences by non-video game artists and bands.
  • MIDI DB - More MIDI sequences by non-video game artists and bands. Seems a little less up-to-date and harder to navigate than Free Midi.
  • Piano-Midi - Piano-only sequences of a lot of classical music. Not sure how useful it is for ZC, but it's there.
Game System Formats (NSF/SPC/GBS)
  • Zophar's Domain - Probably the best resource for game rip music. Very complete, and all files are transcoded to MP3 and can be previewed in-browser.
  • SNES Music - The best resource for SNES music. Very, very complete. The format is weird - the soundtracks come in .rsn files. These are just RARs, though - you can rename them to .rar and you'll be able to open them normally with whatever program you use to open RAR files.
  • Project 2612 - Contains a lot of VGM rips of Genesis/Mega Drive music.
  • SMS Power! - Similar to Project 2612, but for Sega Master System music.
  • Josh W - NSF, GBS. Contains individual 7zip archives of pretty much every game for the NES and Game Boy.
Trackers (MOD/IT/S3M/XM)
  • Mirsoft - Tracker rips of a lot of video game music (as well as some MIDI sequences). Probably largely obsoleted by the game rip formats above, but still might have a few useful things.

Vgmaps is also a good back-up plan for finding graphics.

My Metamode LP (link to tile rips) might also count? It's much narrower in scope than those other sites, but it's got a pretty solid concentration of tiles that can be used in gameboy, especially on the interiors front.

Just wanna call out that HelpTheWretched's site has an expired SSL certificate. Tldr; this means that the site might not be actively maintained anymore. Might be a good idea to download sound effect packs for games whose effects you like.

EDIT:
Never mind, it seems to be updated now. LOL. The site has been without an SSL certificate for years and just now gets it restored.

Thank you! I've added links to both of these to the OP.

Oh, yeah. Uh, HelpTheWretched's site has a weird history when it comes to maintenance... it'll go for like, years without being maintained and then all of a sudden get updated. I guess the guy still checks in every once in a blue moon, but it might actually be a good idea for someone to archive it... just in case.
