Promised Lands

a quest by Jamian

So Jubbz asked me to make a thread about my upcoming ZC quest, and since it's nearing completion this is a good time.

This time I wanted to make a shorter and tighter quest, so there are "only" 8 dungeons, albeit all of them are long multi-floor ones, so the total playing time should be more than satisfactory. I used an unreleased tileset that Moosh made, which is close to classic but with several improvements.

Here are a few non-contractual screenshots:

Your starting location:

Darkness is a thing:

Block puzzles are a thing:

So are traps:

And minigames:

No item is given without a fight:

I've really improved my scripting skills since last time, so there are several custom scripts in this quest, including fully scripted bosses and minibosses.

There are also a couple of small novel gimmicks, but I can't tell you about that just yet because I've yet to make sure that everything works properly.

There is no release date but it should be in the near future.

My thoughts on this quest are summed up pretty well by this video.

I'm really looking forward to this quest. Also it's nice to see that my tileset is actually still getting used for something.

Hi! Here is some more info, now that I know that these things will work as intended:

zelda012.png

Every time you kill an enemy, they have a small chance of dropping a soul. When you collect an enemy's soul, you can add it to your collection in the Souls House. This works as a bestiary for all the common enemies found in the quest.

zelda013.png

The cartographer draws treasure maps, showing you a few unlikely spots where you can find secrets in the overworld. The trick is: he draws his maps very crudely, so you'll have to figure them out and make the connection when you happen to be in the corresponding screen.

zelda014.png

Ulrira (the helpful old man from Link's Awakening) makes a return here. If you get stuck, find a phone booth and give him a call, he might be able to help!

This quest definitely looks great, and from the tiny bit of the quest I saw, your design has really improved tremendously. The enemy soul collection seems like a real cool little feature too. I'm looking forward to this.

Thanks for all the kind words :) The quest is now in the beta testing phase, I hope you'll like it when it comes out.

Jubbz: there is a (small) reference for you, which you may or may not see while you stream it :awesome:

Really nice, I'm looking forward to playing this :D. How is the beta testing going?

I am not sure about the Link sprite though, because it uses a brown?! outline. I don't know, i just don't like this Link sprite so much. But this doesn't make the quest any worse or something :)

Pretty good :) It's still impossible to give a release date but I'm making steady progress ironing things out.
