I'm wondering if there is a way to make the active subscreen appear instantly, instead of with the default slow animation.

Does anyone know of a solution?

Script a custom subscreen.

Ah I was afraid of that.

Then I'll have to delve into making custom subscreens sometime :-)

Thanks!

Feel free to steal some from mine, if you'd like. It's fairly hard-coded per item, so, that's a thing- it's designed to work on the combo grid though.

Ah sweet, thank you!

Is this the one you have in the Majora's Mask demo? That one is really nice!

Ah sweet, thank you!

Is this the one you have in the Majora's Mask demo? That one is really nice!

Yep indeed. It's also designed to have EX1 EX2 and B all be configurable items, with the passive to boot.

...but the coordinates for that are all hard-coded. So, uh, gonna have fun changing it.

For the active, the actual background is just a screen drawn with `DrawScreen`, so you'd want to draw the outline out in combos. Then, you just give each item a location on the combo grid.

As for how the cursor moves, well, good luck figuring out how to get that working.

...This was not designed with flexibility in mind at all, it was totally designed to be hard-coded into MM2D. Best of luck if you decide to work with it.

But, if you can figure out how to make it work for you, or even steal some of the ideas for it into a new base, then that's all the better. You can back out of that file to the entire repo, for my entire set of scripts; feel free to use anything, so long as I get a line in the credits :)

Personally I'd love it if default ZC could have instant and fast scrolling subscreen similar to the screen scrolling options.

Thanks Venrob, that's very nice of you. I'm sure I could make something out of it, but for starters I don't even know how to replace the default subscreen with a scripted one. I'm sure your script will be helpful in that, amongst others.

And I agree with Shane. I think that too keep up with the quality of the quests nowadays, one must be good at scripting (or need a lot of help). All the upgrades to the item editor and enemy editor are awesome and are very meaningful in closing this gap for certain.

Something that could make subscreens up to nowadays standards would be the increased/non-existent scrolling speed, I suppose. There are of course many other nice-to-haves in the subscreen editor, but this feature might be a very impactful one.

If others are interested we could submit it as a feature request and look with puppy eyes at Venrob and Zoria ;-)
