No, no. I didn't try to delete the folder. I used the program he posted and it didn't work.

Try doing a scan on your drive to see if that will fix the error with the file that's preventing it from deleting. Go to My Computer and right click on the drive that the file is on. Select Properties. Go to the tools tab. There should be something about error checking or scanning or something similar (depending on your version of Windows).

This has already been suggested, I believe, but try to move all the important files that are in that folder out, and just delete the folder.

Well, I copied the folder, and then deleted the first one, and I couldn't, because of the bad file. But everything else got deleted.

I would try using the command prompt to delete that stubborn file. Include the quotes and substitute the folder's path for [path_to_folder].
CODE
cd "[path_to_folder]"
dir /x

That should show the file along with an alternate filename next to it that would look something like: ALTERN~1.ext (example name).
You could also use the cd command to go one folder at a time until you reach the one in question.

Then rename the file to something different:
CODE
ren ALTERN~1.ext newname

Then try deleting it. Does this help?

Does it tell you it doesn't exist during the rename process or delete? Even with the alternate filename? Or does it not give you an alternate?

In a command prompt, if you type just the first 1-3 letters of the filename and hit tab, it should automatically fill in the rest of the filename. Does that reveal a space at the end or something else unexpected?

Pressing Tab does nothing in the command box.

I sort of suspect that you two may be talkings about different things. Lynker, are you thinking of command prompt as the program at Start->Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt, or something else?

Hmm, well that's really odd. I downloaded the program myself and tested it out on an unimportant system file, and it let me take control of it. icon_shrug.gif With what it's saying it can't find, I almost think you may have a virus or something attached to the file, which may have rooted itself somehow.

Okay. Try this:

http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd

Download and burn Hiren's Boot CD. Boot from the CD and to to the Mini-XP. See if you can delete the file then.
