I'd like you to know that right now, Facebook is the only way for me to contact one of my best friends from high school who got sent overseas to Japan. I'm so glad you want me to lose that again.

qft.

Facebook is the only way I can keep in contact with friends from high school. Some are overseas fighting in the wars, some are in colleges across the nation and chances are I'll never see them again. This helps me stay in contact. Wish they were close so I didn't have to use FB, but I don't make other peoples decisions for them for my own benefit.

and lol at anon being the final boss of the internet. All they are doing is keeping peoples paychecks fat. I can guarantee facebook workers are getting overtime right now due to this.

You guys make it sound like Facebook is the only social site out there. If Facebook falls, migrate to another one (make sure you message your friends where you are going). Skype is probably way better than FB anyway, since you can video call and all that. Who needs Facebook when there are so many better choices out there?
INB4: Why should we have to do that when they could just leave it alone? Well, if it's already underway, there's not much you can do besides wait it out. I'd make a backup now just in case, because you never know what's going to happen.

But Facebook is what we're used to, and, other than Google+, is the only site that really is intended for optimum communication and interaction.

Twitter allows you to post witty quips about life's happenings (or if you're an annoying person, the color of your shoes today); Tumblr is more of a web-journal than anything else; Skype just lets you video chat people, right...? Can be fun, but is really utterly useless compared to Facebook.

Say what you will, but there's a reason Facebook is so successful. And, even if Facebook were to go down, I think they'd be back up a lot faster than you realize. A billion dollar corporation isn't just going to be say, "Oh. Well, we were hacked. Guess we're done."

Um... no. It lets you do text chats (to one people or entire groups, like in the chat room), as well as make voice and/or video calls. It has statuses you can update, can send files, all that crap. Really, it could work as a Facebook replacement pretty easily.

Ah. Well, that's my fault for not knowing much about it. icon_shrug.gif Still...People are happy with Facebook. Why rain on the parade of people who want to use it? Honestly, it really shouldn't even be much of a discussion. If people are content, let them be...No need to tell them they're doing it wrong.

That's what happens everyday in life, even if you're content with something. You just have to deal with it icon_slycool.gif .

But we do have facebook and it doesn't look as though it's going anytime soon. What's the point of arguing with (about/over) multi-million dollar corparations anyways? If people want to use facebook even if it was "harm" to them (to them, not to anyone else) than just let them do as they darn well please.

No. Facebook should fix its problems (and by fix, I mean stop being bad, not gonna start explaining why they're bad, because it's already been said). The idea of Facebook is amazing, but until they start running it like a legitimate business, the users should do whatever they can to make it so. If that is to allow anon to run crazy with it, then fine by me, but we all know that what anon does is not going to make them stop doing what they are already doing. They should be sued out of their pants for invading peoples privacy, but instead people are blindly allowing them to do whatever they damn well please. This is bad, and it's regardless whether or not certain users like Facebook as a whole or not.

Not quite my point. I don't say that it's good that facebook messes with privacy and likely makes a lot of money by selling personal data. But if people don't mind than that's perfectly fine. You can't disallow people to be stupid. The potential harm is common knowledge anyways, so it's the users' choice wether they want to take the "risk" of having a facebook account or wether they do not so.
