So Hover Boots. That item that passively lets you hover in the air after jumping.

How plausible would it be to have Hover Boots protect you from falling into pits, either temporarily or indefinitely? I remember true built-in pits being on the agenda for 2.55, but I'm unsure whether they've been added or not; however, a flag to do this for the "pit warp" combo could be helpful currently as well.

I imagine hover boots would work by drawing the hover boots tile under Link and playing the sound while he's on a pit; after the timer runs out, he falls in the pit (or gets pit warped). Since the Iron Boots got a bit of an overhaul, it would make sense to give the same overhaul to Hover Boots as well, wouldn't it?

(and if I'm a complete moron and somehow missed this in the changelog, apologies)

I have a script for this actually!!! I made it a week or so ago, and its been working really well. It does require some set up tho.

For anyone who's missed the recent dev chatter, proper engine pits are currently in progress. They are mostly done for Link; including jumping over them, as well as ladder and hover boots support. They can be either bottomless or warp; and don't need to be (but can be) a direct warp- they can also use return squares.

They are *NOT* done yet, though; will likely be a decent bit until they are ready. As it stands, enemies would treat them just like normal ground. When I'm finished, enemies (that aren't flying) will treat them like walls; unless you hit them and knock them back, at which point they can be knocked in, and fall. Items/weapons will also be able to fall in, assuming they have the 'obeys_gravity' flag; which is the same thing that controls them falling in sideview, for the record (and is script-modifiable). This is gonna be really nice and fancy, though as such it'll take a bit of time to get it done right.

EDIT: Recorded a sneak-peek video for pits.
