Previous title: Playtonic Games - Rare Reborn

I'm not sure how many are aware of this, but thought I'd drop this here as it was pointed out to me the other day:

http://www.playtonicgames.com/

tl;dr:

We’ve got the bloke who programmed Donkey Kong Country, the character designer behind Banjo and Kazooie, and the artist who made your console fit to burst with lavish environments across a decade’s worth of adventure games.

Basically Playtonic Games is composed of most of Rare's former best talent, freed from Microsoft's vile clutches and ready to work on a game they want to make. And I'm quite excited. From what I understand, they're working on a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, which is what we all need. Well, those of us who liked B-K that is. It's sad that they no longer have access to the original bear and bird, but I'm sure they'll be able to crank out something just as lovable and enjoyable.

I'm hyped.

Excellent! I hope they can re-harness the drive that brought them to such heights in the 90s. Here's hoping Grant Kirkhope joins them. :)

I actually heard some of the old talents from Rare are working for Retro Studios (those who made donkey kong country returns and tropical freeze), but I'm not sure if that's true.

Hopefully we'll get a spiritual successor to BK though. Rare's games were amazing!

Perhaps...on the other hand, Rare also developed some LJN classics such as Nightmare on Elm Street NES, Beetlejuice NES and Roger Rabbit NES....*quivers*

Let's see what turns up, shall we?

AVGN said the exact same thing, and the point was just as invalid when he said it. Note that all of those are NES games AND license titles. For the former aspect, whatever they were doing wrong in those games got worked out of their system by the time the SNES and later the N64 rolled around. And for the latter aspect, license titles are doomed to be bad with almost no exceptions, save for one which Rare themselves produced (007).

Also, good to hear Kirkhope is on board. It wouldn't be right without him.

I had already heard about this through chat, but as a huge B-K and DKC fan, even the idea of a game made by these guys gets me excited. If this new game is anywhere near as good as its predecessors, I will be in love with this group forever.

You know...

:slycool:  Playtonically.

Here's a great article:

http://www.theguardi...project-ukelele

Also they've been talking more about the game today, but I haven't been watching the stream. I'll catch the highlight later, but they've been showing some screenshots. It is definitely a Rare game.

Do note that LJN, the publisher, has been reported by various people to be complete pricks when it came to developing a game. They paid virtually nothing to developers and gave them absurd deadlines to make something. It really isn't any surprise that ANY developer working for LJN produced crap.
