Someone's having a difficult time with my quest and has asked me for the cheat codes. I'd be happy to provide them, but have no idea what the codes do.

Under the Cheats section in Quest, I see cheats from Level 1 to Level 4, and a code next to them. Cheats Enabled is checked, and the codes are left as the default. Can anyone explain what this means? What do the levels of codes do?

EDIT: Sorry, I figured it out myself. If anyone comes here with the same question, here's what I discovered:

You can set a code for each of the four level of cheats from the ZQuest editor. If you type in the codes into the "cheats" section of Zelda Classic, it will unlock options to instantly refill counters, or give certain items or equipment on the spot. Higher codes allow greater access, with the highest ones allowing you to get whatever items you want, teleport to screens at will, and easily break the game. The level one code seems sufficient for most players who just want a bit o' invincibility.

I feel like quite the doofus for not discovering this and using it when testing my quest ...

To clarify things for other people with the same question:

The level 1 code lets the player refill their life, magic, bombs, rupees, or arrows by pressing a certain key.
The level 2 code allows Link to become invincible as though he had picked up a clock. It also allows the player to change the maximum number of bombs Link can carry, as well as the number of heart and magic containers he has picked up.
The level 3 code allows the player to directly edit Link's inventory, giving him any equipment item he chooses, even if the item is normally unavailable in that quest.
The level 4 code is akin to a debug mode for the quest. It allows Link to ignore tile warps and combo walkability, move at a very fast pace, instantly kill all the enemies on the screen, reveal or hide a layer, turn the light in the screen on or off, and warp to any screen and DMap in the game.

Don't think we can help you with that... codes are set by the quest creator if the codes are even enabled, which the creator can also control.

When I'm having an awful time, I use Cheat Engine to freeze my health values.  The thing to remember is that each heart container is equal to 16 health "units."   A half-heart is 8, and a quarter-heart is 4.    3/4 of a heart is 12 units.

So if you open ZC, then open CheatEngine and set its Process to zelda-w.exe,  and you start with 3 heart containers, you have  48 health, assuming those three heart containers are full, do a search for 48.  Don't forget to set the "Value type" to All.

When you search for 48, a list of values will populate on the left.   Now go get hit in-game by an Octorok then pause the game with Escape or something.   Your health should be 40.  Now input 40 into the thing in the upper right where you typed 48 earlier and click Next.  The list on the left will shrink a little to values that were 48 and are now 40.

Get hit again to get only two Heart Containers - 32 Health Units.  Refine the search to 32.   Repeat this procedure until you have isolated in the list only  two or three values on the left.  Those represent your health.

To the lower right of that big box of values that's now empty  ... is a tiny, tiny box with an arrow.  Click that, and all values in that box will go into the box beneath it.  Highlight them all, and click the box to the left of those values to freeze them.

There are tutorials on Youtube to describe all of this, but that's the general process.   This works with most games, by the way.  Some games aren't programmed properly to have this work anyway, but it's still a great way to do things.  Have fun!

ZeldaShark works to enable cheats. Just make sure you run it with administrative privileges

That is becauwse you are not yet meant to be in that area. Get equipment, beat some levels, then return. The magic octorock overword area is mean to be endgame.
