I found a new way to make big chests work in beta 182, without the warps, boss flags, etc.

Here we go: (assuming you use 2x2 LttP big chest tiles).

1. Set up your combos. Make the left bottom one have the top two unwalkable. Make this combo be a Boss Lock Block with the same combo next to it, but with only the left top corner non walkable. Make that a trigger perm combo.
2. Now, with the combo that should appear that it is horizontally flipped, assign the Boss Lock Block 2 combo. Make the combo next to that be the same as the one before it, but it should have only the top right walkable, and be a trigger perm combo type.
3. Set the top of the chest (the part that opens) as an overhead combo that is unwalkable. This should make it so you cannot see the item that you will place. Do the same thing for the other combo that appears flipped. Now, set the secrets in that room to make the closed chest appear open.

The effect of this will be as follows:
Link will walk up to the chest, which is a Boss Lock Block combo. If he has the Boss key, the Boss Lock Block changes and makes a little spot of unwalkability. Thus, the Boss Lock Block 2 does the same, making enough for link to walk through. Once Link moves, the trigger perm that is set to those combos will take away the overhead combos covering the item, and make 2 slightly walkable open chest tiles, allowing Link to walk up and grab the item.

EDIT: Either this is a ZC bug, or it is intentional, but you have to put secret combos over the lock blocks you use to open the chest, because if they are boss lock blocks then they come back when you leave the screen....

Enjoy doing big chest with no warps. icon_wink.gif If you have any questions, please ask. icon_smile.gif

EDIT 2: When you try this, since boss keys don't open boss lock blocks in 182, be sure to use the magic key. Also, if you want the secret combos to stay, you have to use level 0. Just be aware that it might not be working because of these bugs, but I did get it working. icon_smile.gif

Okay, that's very confusing. Furthermore, how can it be done with a normal 1-tile chest? I've tried an "invisible" lock block on a layer, but it actually manages to turn into a crystal switch combo rather than the proper under combo. Didn't do all that trigger stuff though, it's too confusing to discern.

Wanna know why DZ? Lock blocks DO NOT turn into the under combo; they turn into the NEXT combo.

K, I've discovered one-tile lockblock chests.

For this you'll need to set up a few new combos. Set up a closed chest as a lock block 2, and the next combo as a transparent square. Next, set up a transparent square as a lock block, with only the top half being unwalkable. the combo after that should be yet another transparent square.

Now, set up an item and move it where you want your chest. Then, on any layer that goes under Link, (layer 0, 1, or 2) put an opened chest. The opened chest CAN be totally unwalkable and Link will still be able to grab the item.

Then, on layer 1 or 2, put your invisible lock block in front of the opened chest tile. (one tile below it, in other words.)

Now, on any layer above Link (3 and upwards) put your lock block 2 chest lid. This will cover the item inside.

When you go to play, you can't get the item inside the chest no matter what unless you go in front of it and "unlock" it with a key. When that happens, the chest itself will look like it's opened and even though it's still totally unwalkable, you'll be able to approach it from the bottom and grab the item inside.

Ah yes, I will post a quest sample in a minute to show how its done. The 2x2 combos that the BIG chest uses is at the bottom of the dungeon combo page.

DZ- what in particular was so confusing about it???

Ok, I'll explain it in more detail.

1. Set up a 2x2 block in your combo page of a big closed LttP chest.
2. Make the top left combo be overhead and unwalkable. Do the same for the one right next to it.
3. The combo below the top left should be Boss Lock Block. It should be walkable only on the bottom two parts.
4. The combo next to the Boss Lock Block should have the same appearance as the Boss Lock Block BUT should be a trigger perm combo with only the top left portion unwalkable.
5. Make a OPEN LttP chest right next to the closed one.
6. Make the two open tiles (the top two ones) be totally unwalkable with no combo type.
7. Make the first combo below the top left open combo be the same as the one in step 3, but the type should be Boss Lock Block 2 and have a horizontal flip.
8. The combo next to that should look the same, but be a trigger perm with only the top right protion unwalkable.
9. Now, draw a closed big chest on your screen. MAKE SURE YOU PLACE THE TWO BOTTOM MOST TILES AS THE BOSS LOCK BLOCKS 1 AND 2!
10. Set the secret combos for 16 and 17 as the open portion of the big chest where the item should appear. Place them on top of the overhead closed chest combos.
11. Make secret flags 18 and 19 be the combos that appear AFTER the Boss Lock Blocks. Place them over the Boss Lock Blocks below the chest.
12. Place the item under the overhead combos.
13. Test it to see if it worked right. If you want the secret combos to stay, you need to have the level number be 0 because of ZC bugs. Also, you need the magic key to open the Boss Lock Blocks yet again because of bugs.

If you have any more questions, or just want to see the combo set up, open the file 182-chest.qst in this zip file.

EDIT: Fixed URL.
