Nintendo Switch.
Sloped terrain support!
Cat Mario and enemies from Super Mario 3D World.

Luigi.
All kinds of new tweaks and stuff to do & a massively overhauled level editor UI.

I am really happy about this. I got a ton of mileage out of Mario Maker, and come on, who didn't want a sequel? And it looks like, right out of the gate, they are adding a ton of stuff. I can see this game being the downfall of other 'game projects' I'm working on this summer. I'm glad they added slopes too. And I'm glad they were self aware enough to be like, "okay, here they are man, sorry about that." I think I'll remake a few of my levels from the first one for practice lol. And let's hope all the stuff is unlocked right away, so we don't have to change the calendar, or whatever it was.

I'm ultra happy about this. Not only does it add a crapton of cool stuff (and the ability to play green mario!), but it means that I can now play Mario Maker whenever I feel like it without having to boot up my barely-functioning Wii U.

Now I'm convinced the Wii U was just a 4-year-long Switch prototype.

I'm already seeing great opportunities to make awful levels. That ON/OFF switch will come in handy.

Wow I'm really impressed by this. I kinda lost interest with the first Mario Maker but this definitely will get me back into things I think. I'm already having some pretty crazy ideas :P I could see myself playing this for a good while.

The Best part of the Direct. Lot of new things being added like slopes (finally!) and things that people will use to be a jerk (I can already imagine seeing troll levels with long Block Train sections with the Angry Sun attacking you throughout the sections) or create different kinds of levels (like Cat Mario being used to make parkour levels). I wonder if the Mystery Mushroom and the costumes will return and if there will be new ones if they do return.

There is one thing that could make or break the game: Will you need to have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to access the levels posted online as well as post your levels online? That could be a deal breaker for those who don't have a subscription if you do need it.

I wonder if there'll be some way to bring forwards older levels?

And imagine that on purchase you are restricted to Mario Maker 1 elements. And rest of content, including slopes, extra characters, co-op building, 2.5D World setting, vertical sub-areas, waypoint based custom autoscrolling etc, is sold via expensive DLC packs thus reducing number of SMM2 exclusive levels available online. Speaking of online subscription: you also need it to play 100 Mario challenge, which includes two new modes:

1. No-Skip - self explanatory.

2. Rogue Mario - forced to skip level on each death.

And upon completing 100-Mario challenges you got golden wrenches which provides you with discount on DLC. No Freebies!

I think DLC would be handled so that those who purchase the base game can play whatever they want but those that want to edit/create levels will need to cough up money for everything.

I suspect you'll need online to share and play levels. But I'm not really that mad, it's 20 bucks a year. Of course I'd prefer it to be free, but hey, business.

I think, it should also lock from playing levels to get more incentive for more players to buy DLCs. Especially those who buy Mario Maker 2 just for endless fun in form of 100 Mario Challenge. And 2/3 of the levels in online level list will have bearing DLC locks...

So, uh, since it was on sale and I had a bunch of Gold Points and money on my eshop account (to the point where it cost me like £12 to buy this £50 game) I went and, well, bought this. Like a year or two after it was relevant.

I haven't made any levels yet (been busy, just been playing the story mode so far), but if anyone has any levels or worlds they'd like to recommend to me, I'd be happy to check 'em out.

At some point I may dig out my Super Mario Bros. X levels and port over as many as will work (though I appreciate the stuff you can do in each is not the same).
