With the inclusion of the enemy editor, every enemy on this list can be modified in one way or the other. For the sake of argument, I will just talk about the unaltered version of these enemies. Also, equipment plays a lot in the difficulty of these enemies. Pols Voice is quite dangerous with a wooden sword and no arrows.

Before you read on, my criteria for voting is: Are they dangerous alone and how well do they work with others. I voted for enemies that make any composition of enemies more dangerous in groups.

I voted Wizzrobe, Like Like, Bubble, and Octorok ... it was a little too late, but I would add Stalfose to this list. Emmm ... I probably should of added Darknuts, but I really don't think they are dangerous without certain combinations of enemies.

Wizzrobes

Every category of this enemy is dangerous.

Teleporting Wizzrobes do four hearts of damage, however they are glass cannons and can be manipulated. They are truly dangerous if they teleport one by one with other enemies.

Batrobes: Early on, before getting the magic sword, you better hope you have enough bombs to take this guy on. Just having two in the same room can really cause chaos if you can't deal with those bats easily. The difficulty of this enemy severally goes down when you get good equipment.

Firerobes and Floating Wizzrobes: These guys are the reason why I voted for Wizzrobes as the number 1 most dangerous enemy in Zelda Classic. What makes these guys so dangerous is how little control you have over these guys. When you hit them with your weapons, they don't move away from Link. They can take the hits and continue the assault on Link. The only other enemy that can do this is the Pols Voice, but they have one hit KO weaknesses (The enemy editor can fix this MUHAHAHA :superevil: ). Also, these guys just go where ever they want to when ever they want to. You can kind of manipulate the floating wizzrobes by standing in front of them as they will home in on Link and attack him, however, unaltered versions of these enemies are immune to your ranged attacks and you may not have your sword beam at the ready. Lets not forget the Firerobes require a mirror shield to block. Rather by themselves or with a group, these guys are dangerous.

Mirrorobes: Same for the reasons listed above, however, most of the time, you have a mirror shield. It can be a real pain to get these guys to line up with you, especially if the room is designed in a devious way. Personally, I find it fun fighting these guys without the mirror shield in a room with some mirrors that you can move around. Also, these guys are one of the few enemies that are unaffected by the fire boomerang and hookshot.

Windrobes: The most troll enemies in Zelda Classic history. Give them 8 way shot to really make them mean :superevil: . Even worse, make them floating with 8 way shot. They also take a long time to kill.

Bubbles

These guys can control the pace of battle more so than every other enemy on this list. Disabling your weapons and items can mean the difference between life to death. Just add one to two in a room to really make things more difficult. It doesn't matter what the combination of enemies are, these guys will up the difficulty. That is how you know you have a dangerous enemy. The guys are also the most random enemies in the whole game. They just do what they want when ever they want. They can't be killed. They can be used to tank some damage, and they are not that scary if you have the equipment to stun them, so they are not as dangerous as Wizzrobes in my book.

Permanent Disable: Obviously the most evil variation of these guys, these guys can easily prevent you from progressing in a dungeon. While not too popular quests, both Armageddon Quest and Liberation of Hyruile used these guys to make some interesting dungeons. I'm talking about B-Button Pyramid here.

Temporary Disable: Even having your weapons and items shut down for a couple of seconds could mean the difference between life and death. In some situations, using these guys to tank damage is the better option for the small consequence of not using your equipment for a couple of seconds.

Restoring: If you see one of these guys in a room, you can use these to tank damage with no consequence.

Octorok

Am I really the only guy who voted for these guys? Let me enlighten the community on how dangerous these guys really are.

Lets just scratch the LV 1 and LV 2 version of these guys; we are bringing in the big boys here.

Flame Octorok: Having an enemy that can shoot a wall of death that can't be blocked is just plain mean. Sure the mirror shield can block it, but by then, you already have tons of other equipment that can make every enemy on this list trivial. Another mean thing about these guys is how they die. The damage of their death flames is quite high. Now put Link in a room of three or more of these guys and you will see real quick how dangerous these guys really are.

The answer to these guys is to shoot them with your arrows, some quests offer plenty of ammo while others offer little to no ammo. The wand is great at killing these guys as well. Of course your sword beam works, assuming you can always have full HP. The bait item is your best friend here.

Bomb Octorok: Having a projectile weapon that is unblockable 100% of the time is evil. The fast version of these guys are just about as bad as their Magic version. They also hit hard and have a good amount of HP. These guys will always up the difficult of a room no matter what combination of enemies they are pared with.

Magic Octorock: Nuf said. These guys can run circles around every enemy in the Zelda Classic universe. Even if you have your boomerang, you better be accurate, or you are dead. They are super aggressive and will love to have Link for lunch.

Like Like

They have quite a lot of hit points, but don't do much else. Really, these enemies are not difficult nor are they dangerous. In fact, they can sometimes protect you from larger threats. What makes these guys truly dangerous is how they can eat your shield. If you want to make a quest a lot harder, don't allow Link to have a shield. What, you want to block magic and sword beam attacks? Can't now son, you just have to dodge them. Like Likes and Wizzrobes are like peanut butter and jelly. If you really want to be mean, you can modify these guys to eat your mirror shields :superevil: .

Stalfos

Just like the Octoroks, we will ignore the LV 1 and LV 2 version of these guys.

LV3: They have a high halt rate and they shoot very damaging sword beams four directions. I dare you to add three or more of these guys in a room and tell me how dangerous they are. It doesn't matter what composition of enemies are, these guys will add to the difficulty.

Honorable Mention

Darknut

If you are on this website, chances are you know the trick to beating these guys. If you have slash, these guys are made even less dangerous. The only time these guys make a room more dangerous is if they are pared with enemies that must be killed with ranged weapons. Their resistance to arrows, magic, and their shield is good for blocking projectiles. That will make those Flame Octorok much more scary.

Splitting Darknut: Ok, I almost forgot these guys existed at when writing all of this. These guys are scary and are angry at me for not voting for them, however, the sword trick still can make these guys trivial. Lets not forget, their drop rate is normally high for hearts. An enemy, at the beginning of a quest being super scary, becomes nothing more than a HP storage unit at the end of the quest. I remember looking at someone's quest in the editor and you want to know what he named the Splitting Darknut? Health ... yeah that is right Health. An enemy that is suppose to be really scary can be reduced to nothing more than a heart bank. I would like to withdrawal a couple of HP please. Oh, I'll tank a heart or two for four, no problem. I'm talking about the unaltered version of these guys. They are only truly dangerous if you only have the green tunic.

Death Knights: Yeah, these guys are, bar none, the most powerful non boss character in the standard enemies in Zelda Classic. Lets get real here, how many of these guys get used in a quest without properly equipping the player to take fight them fairly? By that point, might as well say every enemy on this list isn't dangerous. Just to add on, I absolutely love how Armageddon Quest and Liberation of Hyrule makes you fight these guys. Also, I don't really consider these guys Darknuts. Well ... they are ... I'm just making up excuses because I didn't vote for these guys :teehee: . I think Death Knights should be their own category. Then I would vote for them. The other Darknuts are just, really not that dangerous when compared to the other enemies on my list.

BAM! That is my list!

The "mean tier" standard ZC enemies are the Death Knight, Octorok on Crack, and Windrobes. They are troll enemies even with the best equipment and nothing else is in the same equivalence class IMO.

Thanks for the thoughtful replies everybody. Reading them made me realize that there should also be a "best/most useful/most powerful ZC item" poll, too. Anybody up to the task of setting one up? ;)

Bombshoes are quite hard, butt the standard blue floating and of course the fire wizzies are surely the meowst annoying of them all. :)
