Wanted videos so I can make a track for it since people are interested on SR.com

I was planning on making one if I can get the times more consistent. Everything else has just been "practice" so far.

I should make it way more clear but if you get to the first dungeon without a sword, you are given one. That happens in the boss room and the first room of the dungeon past the bait room.

Aha!!! That definitely isn't clear. I thought it was mandatory to listen to that old geezer ramble on. ..and on and on....

Dang that's a good time ^ _ ^ Now I think I might get involved again ; )

EDIT: Are you getting the candle? I definitely think getting the candle would be faster for a normal run. I just figured out a path I'm going to take that isn't anything crazy but I think ti should get under your time. All it does is skip the sword and skip the key in the first dungeon. Also it uses the candle to damage boost in two places. It collects 50 rupees in the first dungeon and 20 rupees from killing the Lynels. And the double 20s leading up to the first bow shop.

Also, the quest file is open so please look in it if you haven't. There are some things you almost definitely missed. Looking in the file is encouraged. For instance there is a hidden 50 rupees in level one and 100 rupees in level two.

EDIT 2: Also, I'll be doing an update of the quest relatively soon. And it looks like it is just going to have to switch to in game time. It is just more accessible and intuitive for this sort of quest.

This was still a "practice" run technically, and I could definitely get it faster just from lucky drops alone, not including other things which would add up easily.

I got the candle and that extra heart even though I didn't need it. The only reason I got the candle is because I require a single bomb drop (RNG issue #1) and I'm not guaranteed one from the 3 blue Lynels or 4 blue Octorocks.

I also got the first key 'just because', but it's questionable, yeah. Funny thing is I don't follow an optimal route yet, or even have one memorized for that matter, I just wanna go fast. :P

9:03 is definitely beatable though.

[edit]
Two minor things:

1) 9:03 Gleeock
2) 12:16 Gleeock
3) 16:29 Gleeock
4) 16:43 strike
5) 35:12 Yloh

1) There's no 'c' in Gleeok! :P
2) Normally each person can only have one single best time; e.g.:

1) 9:03 Gleeok
2) 16:43 strike
3) 35:12 Yloh

After trying for about 40 minutes I got a 10:21. I died to the octorocks and then didn't have enough rupees so had to go out of the way to get more. And I nearly died on the final boss so restarted. But it is much better than my previous time.

Do you two blokes have a video to show already?  I want to get this track on speedrun.com, but you know how video verification goes these days, especially for new stuff.......

Patience, patience, patience Nightmare san!

I just set up cam-studio on this machine last week. Plus, you know, like, every time I play it now I have to try and beat 9:03, which is not so easy...

Hmm...sounds like a nice challenge.  You're on pal.

Just finished it with 18:03 on my third attempt.  I'm sure I can beat it faster but I'm not really into speedruns and such.  Nice little quest anyway.  Thanks for it.

I'm not active anymore and this is grave digging. But I've messed around with old zelda classic stuff some and played this quest again, and found it fun. I don't know why the records were in IRL time, but in game time on the final timer I finished the game in 7:29. Probably at least 45 seconds could be cut off. I'm just going to explicitly state the route I used:

Skip sword and candle, go immediately and get the double 20s. Fighting the octorocks you need to get at least 2 rupees

Buy the bow, pause exit to the start

Clip across the river on the first screen by water walking

Get the 20 in the chest

Buy the silver arrows

Get one rocs feather from the pols voice on the far side of the river, pause exit

Use rocs feather to get to the dungeon

Get a pols voice and go to the left, damage boosting using a darknut, resetting the room by exiting if need be

Get the 50 in the room

Get the boomerang and pause exit to the start of the dungeon

Get the meat, pause exit to the start again

Get one more roc's feather and exit, pause exiting to the starting screen

Cross the river using roc's cape and go to the final dungeon

If I got hit before the darknut room I just reset, as the sword beam makes that room so much faster

In the final darknut fight, you can stand over the water to avoid death
