I have planned in my quest different "trials" - there are three different types:

-Trial of Power:  More or less an enemy gauntlet, you have to defeat a large number of difficult enemies without dying - make take away the ability to use certain items, not sure about this yet.

-Trial of Wisdom:  A puzzle trial - could be a series of push blocks, a series of logic puzzles, or guess-and-check puzzles (hit triggers in certain order - you'll eventually find the right solution through trial-and-error)

-Trial of Courage:  This is the least obvious and the one in question.  I'm not sure what I should do for this type of trial.  Maybe a combination of enemy gauntlet and platforming/navigation through spikes/damage combos while having only a quarter heart?  (Do you have the COURAGE to master this trial with very little health?!)

Think of these as mini-dungeons or "shrines" sort of like in BotW.  There will be about 10 different ones of each kind (so 30 overall).  I'm not sure what the rewards for these are yet either.

Thoughts???

Or an area you have to navigate without the ability to use items.

The other two sound good as is.

Or maybe environmental hazards. They can harm you, but you can't attack them (so it's not about power).

Falling rocks/lava/debris, spike floors/pits/lava, traps, moving and/or damaging obstacles.

Invincible enemies also fit this challenge type. Also running away from rolling boulders and lava tsunamis, Indy style.

Good call, I was planning something like this for mine, too. Savage Labyrinth for Power, Gerudos Training Ground / Temple of the Ocean King for Wisdom, then The courage one was for social interaction - a trading quest based around the concept of diplomacy between different tribes and their leaders, to heal tense relations between said tribes. That way, it fits the "courage" theme, even though its not really something done by Zelda before.

Also, the idea was to name them:
Din's Trial of the Heart, Nayru's Trial of the Mind, and Farore's Trial of the Soul. I was trying to avoid straight out naming them "Trial of Power," etc, because then it makes the Golden Goddesses sound like an 80's hair band...

But then again, sometimes 80s bands and Zelda have a lot in common. Earth, Wind, and Fire... to name an example.

Power: Have Link demonstrate sheer power by taking on tough enemies without his fancy equipment. Sword only. No more one-shotting Pols Voices with arrows, no more stunning Lynels with the boomerang, etc.

Wisdom: Puzzles, obviously. But I'd steer clear of push block puzzles (those have been done to death and are seriously boring me by now), or random trial and error puzzles. Try and create innovative puzzles.

Courage: This one's tougher. Maybe tell the player what they'll be facing in the next room, and let them pick their equipment, how many heart containers they'll have, etc. Then at the end, give them a courage score. You must have been brave in X rooms out of X to succeed.
