Why does Modern Sonic have 2D sections? Isn't that the thing of Classic Sonic? Or do both have 2D and 3D sections? I think it would be better if Modern Sonic only handled the 3D sections, because giving 2D sections to him just makes Classic Sonic kind of pointless from a gameplay perspective.

I agree 100% here. Classic should be 2D only (which he is), modern should stay 3D, then maybe mix it up with the OC stages (which appear to be mostly 3D).

It's because Unleashed found a great formula for 3D Sonic that meshed together 3D sections with the occasional 2D section and it worked well. It only seems out of place in this game and Generations because those games also have Classic Sonic in them. Personally, I don't mind so much. I only mind when the level design isn't good, and it is not in Forces.

It seems the general consensus is that the game is average at best and mediocre at worst. So pretty much a disappointment, specially after the series just got a really solid entry with Mania and also after how solid Generations was.

I don't want to sound cocky, but that's pretty much exactly what I expected. I even said in this thread, that it looks good, but not great, or bad. :P

At any rate, after watching some more gameplay, it does at least look stable. No falling through platforms, or overly weird loop physics.. mostly. A lot of the levels do look pretty automated, and the first boss looks reeeaaally boring, which while cool, doesn't really offer much in the way of playability. Most of the 3D sections are "follow this ring trail" or "boost through literally everything!". The grinding sections look fun though, but I'd have to play them myself. I always liked grinding as a concept, but felt it has been clunky in the past. That's the place I see the boost formula shining.

I personally just don't see why I should buy this game when I live in a world that has a new 3D Mario, a very competent new IP platformer (Hat in Time) AND a good new 2D Sonic.

It seems Green Hill is yet in this game too. Aren't people tired of this level? I haven't played Sonic in a while and even i'm tired of seeing it.

I know I am. Let's see, we've had the original, the game gear versions/ variants, the Sonic Advance 3 version with a sunset, the Sonic 4 version, Generations, Mania, and now Forces. If you want to count Emerald Hill, and Seaside Hill you can too since they are damn close in execution. I actually like the design of most green hills, but I'm sick of seeing the checkered ground, and lakes. Angel Island, or Emerald Coast are good alternates to the same "first level" style they are going for. The Generations versions was actually cool, cause besides, oh, wait, Sonic Adventure 2, we haven't sen it in 3D. :P

I know Mario re-uses a lot of tropes too, but I dunno, it just doesn't feel as cheap?

Apparently the game has released in a very buggy state on the PC platform. Severe performance issues throughout the game and was also crashing 2 to 3 levels in to the game (the crash problems have allegedly been patched but the performance issues remain). Sounds like something happened at the last minute that buggered everything up (Denuvo being implemented at the last minute, maybe?)
