Help,

I recently purchased a USB Buffalo gamepad that I'm having glitchy issues with. Not always, but at crucial times I will get this very annoying glitch where each time I hit the "A" sword button it triggers a map view... requiring me to hit "X" or enter to get back to the gameplay. This then again happens repeatedly until all I can do is die. I've tried exiting ZC and re-booting the laptop... this clears it for a time.

Is this one of the problems with playing a quest file that was written before 2.50 can about? Do I need to stick to the older ZC formats for older quests. Is there a fix in the way I've got this new gamepad configured? Annoyed.

I'm in the middle of "Hero's Memory" which is quite enjoyable, until this glitch happens.

Thank You

Do you use any programs outside of ZC to get your controller to work with it? I ran into a similar sporadic issue a while back and it was because I had one of my triggers bound to something random in antimicro. Whenever I'd lightly brush against it, it'd click the mouse and pause ZC. I could see this paired with some hardware malfunction or unwanted setting (turbo button) resulting in the map issue.

I don't have anything game, gamepad, or ZC running. It could be that I might have left a browser or other software running and confusing some process? I'm thinking of searching for a youtube walkthrough of a Buffalo setup, since I'm not understanding much of the ZC controller setup. Right now all I have is 4 buttons and the directional pad. I do find my game improved (I'm a newb) with a direction pad vs my keyboard. Thanks.

That's very strange. I've not heard of this type of issue coming up without some kind of external keybinding program. One solution you could try, though it's rather suboptimal, would be going into Settings->Controls->Keyboard and Settings->Controls->Gamepad and disabling the Map button on both. I'd try doing it on the gamepad first and then the keyboard if that fails. Try this next time it bugs out and see if it stops.

Great Idea. I guess I could live without Map at times.

Does anyone wonder if these issues are related to the quest file? I'm trying this new gamepad in other (maybe less CPU demanding) quests and get near zero ghost keys. I wonder if when a quest author say to use ZC 2.50 I shoud adhere strictly to this? Does 2.50 or 2.52 cover all previous gen versions without errors?

I'm bummed if this is a hardware issue since I tried to find the best available gamepad for Zelda. I found a page where other users were also having "ghost key" Buffalo problems.... hardware. https://forums.libre...AFvgLkxR_NLs5oo

I've not played Hero's Memory in the most recent version, so I wouldn't know if something broke. But I do know the quest was made without scripts and scripts are what would be most capable of causing this kind of issue. It's very unlikely the quest is the problem. Playing quests in the intended version is always best, but 2.53 is intended to be backwards compatible.

Hey, Killing the map on just the Gamepad was the fix, I think. I just tried very intense killing spree and not once did the gamepad has ghost strokes. I've left the Map key active on the keyboard so when I need a map I'll just hit the space bar. Thanks

Oh.... and being a a rookie I discovered that I might have been gripping this controller in a way that gently depressed the L & R buttons. Oops.

I will look into you "script" comment and test this fully on other solid quests.

So it sounds very likely your L or R button was bound to the map somehow. Could be due to ZC, could be a setting on your controller. Glad you found a working solution though.

What specific model?

I guess I fixed it. I've trimmed down the settings so these buttons I don't use now have no assignment. I found that I'm such a rookie I was gripping too hard and compressing the "L" and "R" buttons in my panic.

I'm now 2 weeks into using a controller when most of you all had these things in the 90's.

I still need a silly stupid easiest quest since I'm dying in the 1st or 2nd dungeon in the dozens of quests I'm trying.
