I'd like to be able to use Ocarina of Time-style equipping (remember the C buttons for left, down and right?) ... when you enter the subscreen and press a C button, it assigns the selected item to the button that was pressed for later use in gameplay.
Is this possible with ZScript? Can it be integrated into the subscreen editor?

No, there are no other buttons than A, B, X and Y (usually Ctrl, Alt, Z and X on your keyboard), the directional keys, Enter and Space. So no C buttons for you, sir.

I know very little of scripting...but,
You might be able to have B just for sword and A,X, and Y for the "C" buttons.

There's the 'Can Select A Button Weapon In Subscreen' Quest Rule, which is similar to the GB Zeldas, if you're not currently aware of it.
Otherwise though, not unless you want to re-script the subscreen and all the items.
Which is possible, just wouldn't really be very fun.
