If I want to mail a friend cash as a birthday gift, how do I make sure the birthday money gets mailed to him or her?

Mail it in the mail?

....

If you bring the letter to a post office, I believe you can pay for tracking to check where it is, and make sure it gets delivered.

Failing that, courier Moosh is always an acceptable option. However, in the event that Moosh is buried in ZScript and you're forced to suffer through conventional methods, make sure you don't assign a value to the package or you might have to pay an insurance fee depending on the method of transport.

Ask about 'Restricted Delivery'. It'll cost you a lovely fee, but that will restrict delivery to a named recipient.

You tend to have the most fascinating problems involving situations where, money is waiving a huge red flag that says 'I'm a sucker'. :D

It would be safer to send a money order. Unlike cash which is easily stolen, and untraceable, they can only be cashed by the person they are sent to, and unlike checks, you can't easily sign it over to yourself.

But if you are just slipping a 20 in a birthday card, you should be alright. It's not like your sending 10 grand in a box to the guy.

Back in the day, we just expected it would reach its destination, and eventually hear back from the person, either in the form of a thank you note, phone call, or in person if possible.  The awaiting reaction was something special.  Everything moved much more slowly, but we went about our days in between.
