I 100%'d this a little while back—on Normal, mind you—and I'm gonna fly in here with what's apparently a hot take:

Age of Calamity is better than the original Hyrule Warriors in almost every way imaginable. Sure, it lacks the dream roster of the original, and which has the stronger soundtrack is up for debate, but I feel Age of Calamity greatly improved on battle arenas and especially combat. Arenas in the original were just so bland and basic, whereas here they have a bit more going on in general. Combat adapts elements of Breath of the Wild into it almost seamlessly to make it much more involved and engaging when fighting single targets, unlike the original where it was basically just "scratch 'em a bit and wait for them to show their weakpoint meter to get better damage in." Sure, it might suffer from less enemy variety as a result of emulating Breath of the Wild only, but giving the player more ways to open up weakpoints honestly makes these fights more engaging.

I fucking hated Manhandlas.

Flurry rushes fit in perfectly, and the usage of runes as a replacement for the typical Zelda items is great. Especially when each character has a unique version of each, giving them far more general use than the original's weapons. Most of the characters have great movesets and fun unique abilities; there's a few that aren't as good, same as the original, and admittedly there was a point I found my favorites and didn't use any of the others much. But again, same happened in the original.

I even felt like the story was an improvement. Oh don't get me wrong, parts of it could have used more expansion, but I enjoyed it a lot more in general. The original's was just kind of... there. I mean, at least that one let us get to play as Ganondorf during the plot and build up his rule, but that was more of a gameplay thing than a plot thing regardless.

I can also say the voice acting improved from Breath of the Wild. Still not perfect, but much better.

For the spoilers:

But yeah. Great game. One I honestly hope never gets any DLC, except maybe characters. I just like the idea of this being a complete game, and not a neverending grindfest like the original turned into. I'll say it: Fuck Adventure Mode.

Oh, I thought it was canon, that's a shame.

I might get it at some point but I kinda felt I got my fair share of that style of gameplay in the original, but the selling feature here really was that the it was supposed to be canon and look at what happened in past before the start of BotW.
