1. My keyboard has recently started to act up. Sometimes when I hit the space bar, it won't space. Other times, it registers as pressing it twice. Is there something I'm doing wrong, or is it a sign that it's time to buy a new one?

2. Recently, I've picked up a hobby of reading laptop reviews from a site called LaptopMag. One thing that I can't understand is how you can take any five laptops with the exact same specs (such as Core i5 7200u, 8GB of RAM, Intel HD 620 Graphics, 1080p screen and a 256GB SDD), yet they ALL perform differently and vary significantly. For example, one takes ~50 seconds to copy 4.97GB of files, where another one does the same feat in around 20 seconds. Another example is gaming performance; all of them use a game that's over 4 years old to test the graphics. Running at the Medium pre-set at 1080p, some of those laptops only run at 28 FPS (unplayable), while others get 50+. How is that possible if they all have the same specs?

3. Why is it when I play The Sims Complete Collection on my desktop it runs at 15-20 FPS yet on my laptop which is technically inferior runs it at 60 FPS? The game is technically 14 years old (the final Sims 1 expansion was released in 2003, and TS:CC is basically the base game and all seven expansions in one). I tend to notice that older games run slower on my desktop as well, despite having a graphics card (not the best one granted; it's a bit behind the popular GTX 750 Ti in terms of performance). The only thing I could think of is maybe the laptop's processor is better than my desktop's, but would that make THAT much of a difference?

4. Also an off-topic question, but why is it when I'm on here, there is sometimes a lock with a red slash through it just to the left of the address bar?

Almost certainly something wrong with the keyboard, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's dying. You might just need to pop the space bar off and clean underneath it. But be warned that if you do remove it, it may be very difficult to put it back on. A lot of keyboards use clips that are hard to position properly and break easily.

How is that possible if they all have the same specs?

They're only superficially identical. Different SSDs can perform very differently, and the performance of integrated graphics is heavily dependent on memory speed. The motherboard can also make a significant difference, but reviews rarely even mention it, since the specifics are rather esoteric.

Couldn't say without more information, but it's certainly possible. I wouldn't expect the video card to be an issue with games that old unless there's something wrong with it. There are plenty of other things it could be, though. It might be memory-related, or it may have to do with other stuff running in the background. If the two systems are running different versions of Windows, that could be it, too.

That means the connection isn't secure. That's not a new thing, but browsers have started calling attention to it lately.
