Classic Rock, Punk Rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Grunge, 90s Alternative Rock, Ska, Glam Rock, New Wave, Synthpop, and occasional music from other areas

Nice list.

For bands, I gravitate primarily towards metal. Particularly power metal, symphonic metal, and Gothic metal, many of which are primarily European in nationality.
Bands like After Forever, Angra, Aquaria, Avantasia, Blind Guardian, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Edguy, Eluveitie, Epica, Gamma Ray, Gloryhammer, Haggard, Helloween, Hollenthon, Kamelot, Nightwish, Pyramaze, Rhapsody of Fire, Sirenia, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Theatre of Tragedy, Theocracy, Therion, Tristania, Twilight Force, Wintersun, Within Temptation, and Xandria to name a few.

I also really like the more traditional metal bands like Black Sabbath, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Queensryche, and the likes. Also like modern metal and rock bands, like Demon Hunter, Disciple, Family Force 5, Flyleaf, Mastodon, Rammstein, Skillet, System of a Down, Thousand Foot Krutch. I even like bands like Evanescence and Linkin Park, despite them being memed to death at this point.

Even nicer. I'll have to check out some of those I don't recognise.

My taste is pretty similar to Titanium Justice, i.e. Euro power/symphonic/melodic/Gothic/pop metal. To add a few more bands to that list: Amberian Dawn (lovingly called "ABBA metal"), Delain, Obsidian Shell, Leaves' Eyes, The LoveCrave, Forever Slave, Edenbridge, Tarja's solo stuff.

Example:

On the more cheesy hard rock/metal side: Sister Sin, Battle Beast, Lordi.

Example:

On the other end of my taste spectrum is synthpop: Ladytron (and Marnie's solo stuff), Goldfrapp.

Example:

Forgot to mention Delain, Edenbridge, and Tarja. I really like some of their albums, like Edenbridge's The Grand Design and Tarja's Colours in the Dark. Only Delain album I own is Moonbathers. Haven't given their other albums a chance yet. I have heard about most of those others bands, but I haven't given any of their works a fair shot either.

I like mostly Psychedelic, Alternative, Garage, and Indie: Fleet Foxes, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Pink Floyd, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Inner Wave, Crumb, Peach Pit, LCD Soundsystem, Arcade Fire, The Murlocs, Moses Gunn Collective.

A bunch of others as well. Lots of fantastic rock is coming out of Australia and New Zealand these days.

Moonbathers is great. All of their "recent" (2012+) albums are pretty solid, by my fav is their latest: Apocalypse and Chill. They get better with age IMO.

A lot of psychedelic and stoner rock as of late. Been listening a lot to My Sleeping Karma the past couple days, especially their 2012 album Soma is great.

Here's a link to the thing on youtube: https://www.youtube....h?v=lvCNqJCattk

Other than that A Perfect Circle has been on my mind recently.

i have been very weirdly into progressive rock and metal again lately -- i guess i'm regressing into my teen years or something, that and there's something genuinely refreshing about enjoying music that's so patently uncool.  lately it's been mostly Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Pink Floyd (i like everything from Piper to The Final Cut), and, hilariously, Tool.  i need to listen to Camel and Gentle Giant at some point too...  for metal, there's Metallica (their first 4), Black Sabbath (their first 6 albums or so), Iron Maiden, Opeth, Agalloch, Morbid Angel, Neurosis, Napalm Death, Electric Wizard, and (if they count) System of a Down, who feel shockingly relevant and potent lately.

i'm sort of dipping my toes into more hip-hop stuff too (like every white person pretending they're cultured ever, i like trip-hop and The Low End Theory and Enter the Wu-Tang), but i also get really self-conscious whenever i listen to hip-hop like "am i enjoying this correctly, is it racist of me to think this guy's 'flow' is 'good',".  i suspect this is because i am a pasty nerd

the occasional instrumental electronic music too, i've been really digging Savath & Savalas' Folk Songs for Trains, Trees and Honey lately...

then there's just some musicians that never exit my rotation.  Radiohead, Stereolab, Swirlies, The New Pornographers, Unwound, Sparks, Talking Heads, Can, David Bowie, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Cocteau Twins, they're constants in my life.

oh i forgot to mention i still incessantly listen to video game music and anime OSTs because i'm a nerd (Yoshi's Story, Bomberman Hero, lotta N64-era stuff for VGM, very colorful music... for anime, of course, the Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt and Neon Genesis Evangelion OSTs are brilliant)

oh and i've been enjoying Furniture EP by Big Scary Orderlies lately, which i can recommend if you enjoy furniture, or at the least have furniture products in your house

I can elaborate a bit more and post some random examples of stuff I like. These are just off the top of my head and in no order or anything.

First one is from a game I never played, but I like this song a lot. I like songs that change over the course of them, and the guitars that come in at the end are really pleasant.

Spoiler

Kid Cudi does some really trippy kinda-low-fi-kinda-"I just took too much cough syrup" songs, and I love it.

Spoiler

Love stuff like this too. Loud, and rocking, and changes up a lot. Also, Elton John is generally awesome so.

Spoiler

Scene from my favorite anime with a cool cover of a Sublime song.

I can't decide on a good Protomen song to post so I'll just post their channel, but they have an album of covers which is awesome, plus two original albums that loosely follow the story from Megaman 3-5 in the form of a very epic, and very underrated rock opera.

Well, there's this cover, which is very technical, and clean sounding.

https://www.youtube....h?v=14LAAU8H4Rc

Another (imo) epic song that changes it up, and has a great beat and overall production.

https://www.youtube....h?v=HAfFfqiYLp0

Kinda sounds like it could be in Sonic lol.

https://www.youtube....h?v=ByPS4aeEuC0

This might be what you've been missing.

https://www.youtube....h?v=LKuuHfMx3CQ

Been playing SA2:B again, and this song has always probably been my favorite Sonic stage song. I love the steel drums.

https://www.youtube....h?v=-XrDr-CPHZI

And I love this song unironically. This is, imo, pop production at some of its best.

https://www.youtube....h?v=0NKUpo_xKyQ

EDIT: I'd be remiss if I didn't mention David Bowie. He's probably my favorite male solo artist.

Always glad for a chance to inflict my taste in music on people. :cat:

Mostly, I like game music. Big fan of Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda, in particular. Also hoping to hear a lot more from Yasunori Nishiki (Octopath Traveler).

Besides that, I mainly like zeuhl, an offshoot of prog rock that I'm pretty sure technically qualifies as music. Recently been getting into Belgian modern jazz, too, which can also be pretty weird.

Here, subject yourself to some of these:

Le*Silo - Fascinating Travel To Hawaii https://www.youtube....h?v=iNTvh-Nmf8w

Pochakaite Malko - It Came From https://www.youtube....h?v=4RgqNh7z6A0
Ruins Alone - Ixzelgriver https://www.youtube....h?v=kaBAK9Qmfm0
Octurn - The Mirrored Self https://www.youtube....h?v=309ZKGp-DRY
Lilly Joel - A Wheel in the Palm of Your Hand https://www.youtube....h?v=eJJM4_jJubM

i skimmed a few of these, this is some bizarre stuff. i'm for sure gonna check some of these out; i'm always looking for some new stuff, especially jazz that shies away from the kind of stuff you hear at a coffee shop

I listen to a variety of videogame music from across every generation. JRPGs and Nintendo games have especially good music.

I also listen to MIDIs quite often while working on quests in Zelda Classic and even have many of them on my phone just for the heck of it. It's not like they even take up that much space.

I even like bands like Evanescence and Linkin Park, despite them being memed to death at this point.

Oh my goodness, you have such a great taste in music! That's almost as if I posted it. :)

I like all genres, but as a lover of classical and metal music, symphonic metal is the best for me. My favorite bands being Nightwish and Epica. I'd also like to add to that list some awesome metal bands like Amorphis, Battle Beast, Beast in Black and Eternal Tears of Sorrow.

Oh and a few years ago I found a new genre called synthwave. It's a genre of electronic music influenced by 1980s film soundtracks and video games and I instantly fell in love with it. If anyone is interested in 80's style synth music with a mix of metal, I suggest to check out groups/artists like Carpenter Brut, Perturbator, Dance With the Dead, Master Boot Record

Some of my favorites from Synthwave
