As of 2.55, Alpha 2, there is a quest rule to permit item scripts to run for more than one frame.
 
Further, I've started implementing the new script types, as follows:
 
Sprite Script Types
npc script
lweapon script
eweapon script
 
New Static Script Types
link script
screen script
dmap script
 
Other (t/b/a)
item (sprite) script: This would run on the actual item on a screen, when it is on the screen.
 
I do not know when these will be done, or usable.
 
Further, I increased the maximum registers available to the user in any given script (or globally) from 256 to 1024.
 
This means that you now have 4x as much space to use for global vars, local vars, function calls, arrays, and strings.
