A cup of water spilled and got all over my 2DS which was face up. I wiped it off, and turned it face down to dry. Now when I press Power the blue light goes on, then I hear a pop sound, then it blacks out and powers off. The screen doesn't even warm up or turn on.

I guess I'll have to save up some money and try sending it to Nintendo for a repair, if they still do that.

Do you think it's beyond repair?

Hard to say. There's probably still some water in there, and maybe it'll be okay if it's fully dried out. When water gets into electronics, especially in tight spaces like ZIF slots, it can sit there for a long time. You could try opening it up; if it's already ruined, it's not like you're going to make things worse. Unplug the cables and dry inside the slots, then let it sit disassembled for a day or two to let any remaining water evaporate.

If you do get it working again, it may only be temporarily, so be sure to back up your data right away.

Given the pop, I'd say its unlikely, but do what Saffith said, and hopefully it'll work out. If it's happened repeatedly (I wouldn't recommend checking, but if you tried it repeatedly and it happened the same each time) then there may be more of a chance, but again, I wouldn't be too hopeful ):-/

If not, you might be able to get some of the data out. I imagine Nintendo has some way in place for you to be able to log in with your current account on a new device if need be (which should at least save some money if you bought any digital stuff). Any solid storage (game cartridges and SD cards) should be fine, and I don't believe the 2DS uses any moving parts for its data storage, so you might be able to get it taken out and put in a new one (although I don't know how companies are with stuff like that - it might void a warranty or something).

I lost my DS lite to a milk spillage by my mum a few years ago, so I hope things go well for your 2DS.

Honestly, it might be too late, but I'd try to remove the battery ASAP, if you can. That way, you can be sure that no electricity of going through those wet circuits.

You might get lucky, and it might work if it dries out completely, but again, like Saffith said it might only be temporary. I had an old 3DS in a backpack that got left out on a porch, and rained on. It didn't completely break it, but it effectively made it useless, since the R button wouldn't work, and A and B only worked about half the time. Home, start and select were also toasted, but sometimes they'd work. The game card was fine (DKC:R), and I didn't lose any saves on the card.
