This is what I've been working on for the past six months with a few other authors.

Descent: The Enemy Within
By: Darkflamewolf, Darkhorse, Sirius, Pumo, Wishmaster, Kyouryuu, Alter-fox
TITLE IMAGE: http://i140.photobuc...tthew/Title.gif

This was a long time in coming. I originally wanted to start a mission set
with other level designers a long time ago, since before Apocalyptic Factor
that DH and Sir made a while back. I was unable to do my part at the time,
but I've since paid that back in spades here.
The goal was simple, have people submit around 5 levels to the set, relatively
small in nature and with a whacky level theme that you wouldn't really expect
to see in Descent. What we got was a wide assortment of interesting levels
and challenges. I'm personally surprised at what we all came up with and
I'm proud to have been a part of this set.
Because of the community help, this is THE biggest mission set to date, with
32 whopping levels with an all brand new robot cast + bosses, brand new player
ship with custom cockpit and a kickin new soundtrack. This is definitely one
mission to put on your permenant backup harddrive for future revisitations.
Without further adieu, here is the level line-up!

Obsidian
Apocalyptic Factor

Luke Schneider made:
Entropy 1 and 2

Kruel made:
Konflict at Karon
Kryllidian Krusade

Kyouryuu made:
Project Mandrill

Misc. other authors made:
Encounter at Farpoint 1 and 2

Pumo who also helped with this project is currently working on his own personal Descent 2 mission set.
There is tons of content out there for this game. This is simply the latest in a long line of quality missions.

Screenshots look awesome. I'm gonna fire it up and play as soon as I can get my old gamepad to work, since Descent is a total nightmare to play on a keyboard (especially a laptop keyboard).

For those who want Descent 2 to work with newer computers/OSystems, try www.descent2.de. Its a very nice upgrade to the original Descent 2 with many new graphical features such as smoke, lightnings, coronas, colored lighting, vertex lighting and real time lighting, shadows and more. Its a new way to play old Descent.

Give me another week or so to finish reeling from my world being shattered by the idea of custom Descent content, and then I'll check it out.

well get over it, because there are TONS of custom content for the game. I've listed quite a few above. But that isn't all of them. Those are just the noteworthy ones.

Well I've been playing the levels, and they're awesome so far, although I wish I had never overwrote my old version of D2X-XL with the newest one, because all the newest one does is crash and crash and crash constantly. It keeps crashing out with an error report the first time I enter a secret level, as well as randomly upon level entry on all other levels. It also freezes up halfway through some mines, and the per-pixel lightning is totally broken now, whereas it used to work perfectly without any huge bugs. Standared lighting is also broken, and screws up the robot skins badly. At least vertex lighting works, though it looks VERY ugly, and still has transparency problems galore.

Hmmm, I'm not getting those problems, and I have ver 1.13.93 right now on my computer. But I guess, that's the price you pay for utilizing a beta program that adds a lot of flair to an old game. He's still working on it though, so eventually it'll be perfect. Just don't know when. LOL
Glad you are enjoying the mission though!

I've switched over to using both D1X and D2X Rebirth, and haven't had either crash on me even once yet. Though I can't get stuff like advanced graphics or any of that with it, it runs a LOT better, especially in the automap, where D2X-XL lags miserably, while D2X-Rebirth runs it at a smooth 80fps, which is where i have the max set.

Other downside is I have to start over again, and I was already at like mission 10 in this one, and 22 in the original Descent 1 missions.
