(I certainly hope this is the right forum. Since it has to do with chatrooms, which are often entertaining. I had a toss-up between GD and this forum... If this is wrong, please correct me and then please bash me over the head with a sharp stick for not learning what threads go where.)

Well, I was in the chatroom for Vampires! A dark alleyway. After some conversation and silliness, which includes occasional actions in the *action here* form, I'm told not to use caps, ever. Supposedly becuase I'll get kicked, despite there being NOTHING in the rules saying "Don't talk in all caps". (Some of them say it increases server load, which is bull****, becuase a capital letter takes the same amount of bytes (one) as a noncapital letter in ASCII. I point this out, and people just get angry). I ask where the no-caps rule. Nobody awnsers my question and I search for myself. I say that it'd be better if these rules were more official. Then, I say that some people see it as yelling, and thus rude in large amounts, and say that I'm using it sparingly. So then I think, "Okay, these people are uptight."

Eventually, I start to be frusturated at the lack of client features, and I speak my mind about it. Someone says "Why don't you just use your own client, then?" I say, "Becuase...I don't know the server address. I can't connect to this server without the address." He says, "Here. Lemme help you." Then he kicks me. (He had to say that before the kick since he couldn't add a comment to his kick, btw.)

I come back, frustruated (after a while of searching for the command to rejoin a channel). Returning I ask what my kick was warranted for. I don't really get a good reason. I let it slide for then.

I notice some more problems with the built-in client, and I voice my opinions on them. People start getting annoyed with me. I explain the possibility for being in multiple chatrooms at once. They say it'd 'slow everything down'. I reply, saying that IRC clients aren't that taxing - I have a client set up on my box with an 850MHz processor and a DSL connection. People tell me to "shut the hell up" at the drop of a hat.

Eventually, I tell them that I'm just trying to talk about possibilites for upgrades. But they won't listen, and I eventually say I'm leaving.
Unfortunately, I had to ask "Uhm, what's the disconnect command?" Apparently, the only way to disconnect is to close the window. Very professional, not having a quit command. ¬_¬

I'm not going into one of those chatrooms. Again.

Had similar chatroom experiences?

EDIT: Post refined. It should be easier to understand now.

To point out the all caps thing, it's common-****ing-sense. WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO TYPE ALL OF MY POSTS LIKE THIS? DO YOU THINK IT IS FUN TRYING TO READ THIS CRAP?

Words were given different sizes because that made them easier to read. Big letter starts sentence, and dot ends sentence. Simple and easy. Much better THAN MESSAGES LIKE THIS THAT DO NOTHING BUT ANNOY THE READER.

Also, many people use different IRC programs, some of them may build up a larger server load. Don't be too quick to assume things. The rest of what happened seems to be a funny little act of the kettle calling the pot black. I guess ignorance comes back around to you after all.

As for any events similar to that.. I don't really have many encounters with such idiots.

EDIT: I'm sorry that some of you don't understand this post. I forgot that I was in Amerika. I'm sorry, I'll never forget which country I'm in ever again.

First of all, I wasn't using all caps where it wasn't nessecary. It was more like to symbolize loud noises, like *FOOM!*. I was trying to have fun, not saying things like "OMG UR T3H SUK DI3". In fact, MOST of the time I was just talking normally. When you act like you're pouring vodka on a fire, do you type *foom!* or *FOOM!*? There was no bold in the chatroom either. Don't insult my intelligence - I know how the english language works. But ALL CAPS text is typically seen as yelling or shouting on the internet - my opinion was that it was allowed, if used sparingly (which I was using it sparingly. These people were getting on me for the slightest bit, and in actions).

Kettle calling the pot black? I think the original saying was "Pot calling the kettle black". So thus, you obviously meant the reverse. Saying I'm thick then? I didn't have a problem with not accepting my suggestion. But rather, not even listening and responding to anything I had to say on the matter (including simple debate - but I wouldn't even classify it as that much!) with "God shut the hell up".

Thier server doesn't get that many users either - at the time I logged on there were only 19 in the current room. And this server is already running a large-scale online game - I don't think an IRC server improvement would dent the bandwidth too much. The server has, in it's database, probably upwards of 2,000 users.

Please don't call me ignorant. If you weren't...please try to make your post a little more clear. I found it a bit hard to understand your post. Please speak in plain, simple english.

Please do not insult my intelligence. I put every one of my posts through spell checkers and I'd rather not have someone else tell me I insulted them when I had no wish to do such things. When I wish to insult someone, I don't hide it. So when I insult you, you will know.

Kettle calling the pot black is of the same meaning as the 'original' saying. Also, if you don't like the way a server is conducted.. You could just, oh, I don't know.. Leave? Just because you have to move your mouse a little more doesn't mean you have to be subjected to things that you do not like. *Click*

Also, the rest of the second 'paragraph' was highly unreadable, please use plain English. I'd rather not have more people gang-raping Ms. English.

Also, when you're on another person's server, you shouldn't think that you're doing them a favor of "letting it slide". They can kick and ban you all they want. Most of the Internet is a Dictatorship, not a Democracy. If it was the latter we'd have an idiot Conservative being lord of all that is the INTARWEB.

*sniff* Hmm...I smell gas. This topic could catch flames (flaming) really quickly... </observation>

Sometimes one can insult another without knowing it - be glad that I make myself clear when I feel insulted rather than having major issues with communication - which most people do. Believe me, not expressing yourself can do more harm than good - I've witnessed that firsthand.

And I *DID* leave the server, you know. I prefer to try to help before abandoning something, however. As I saw they weren't willing to accept help, I left that Titanic before the lifeboats were all gone.

Sorry for misunderstanding your analogy, but perhaps it would be best to use the typical one, that everyone understands. As you can see it can cause confusion among those who don't understand you - yours truly included.

Alright then. Let me make myself more clear.

If you mean my second paragraph in the reply...

I would have been fine with them just not accepting my suggestion. But the fact that they just replied to anything I said with "God shut the hell up" was what made me really angry.

If you mean my second paragraph in the original post, I do admit I was sort of frusturated when I wrote it, and may not have made myself properly clear. I am proceeding to edit it now.

EDIT: Finished. Should be easier to read now.

QUOTE(Jaivaz @ Jul 3 2005, 09:18 PM)
The rest of what happened seems to be a funny little act of the kettle calling the pot black. I guess ignorance comes back around to you after all.

For reference, Jaivaz, this topic became a troll/flame thread the moment you called Stungun ignorant. I don't care how intelligent and clever you think you sounded. It was unprovoked and uncalled for, and obviously quite intentional.

I don't see this thread as having much of a future, so I am going to close it. If anyone disagrees, and wanted to continue posting something other than insults, please PM me or any moderator who is online at the time, and they can decide.
