it is happening again, after restarting. no connection. my wireless network is set up, WEP encryption and all, but my net adapter can't find it. Also when it was up last night it was flimsy. (this was not happening before I was forced to reinstall.) this will not do.

There are programs available which will let you use your WiFi capable network card to detect congestion on the various WiFi channels letting you know which are least used in your vicinity, configure the router to use said channel.

In addition, some cheaper routers and modems (e.g. the ones ISPs give you usually) require you to powercycle them before they will "realize" that there's a new device on the network to send data to.

powercycle? what is this powercycling? repeated use?

There's nothing wrong with the network: Keep in mind, if I can't connect from my computer, I'm doing so easily from my 3DS, using the exact same network. I suspect that the 3DS's use of it might be related, but it posed no problems whatsoever before the hard drive failure/windows reinstallation. So unless its presence during the wireless adapter's installation caused something... I dunno.

Aside from that, everything looks to be in order. Just about. Think I gotta install the other soundcard driver though: No sound in minecraft... though Minecraft is still slow as all hell. blame Notch lol

I find Minecraft plays significantly more smoother if you just setup your own server and connect to it locally. Otherwise I get stutter every time something new is generated while exploring.
