While caught in some video-in-a-video loop of watching a youtube video of someone showing a youtube video, I noticed one thing. It was black. If this sentence made no sense, basically, YouTube has a nifty new dark mode. But instead of accessing it in a normal way, you gotta go into the developer options. At any rate, it looks really cool. I hate how 99% of websites force you to look at some bright background. Frankly, all websites should be required by law to have a dark version :P

Anyway, if you are interested in trying it, here's how. Yeah, like I said, it's weird, but there you go.

I'm pretty certain actually that there's a dark mode available in the newest version/beta/whatever, built into it with no extra hassle.

There is. If you just go to YouTube and click on your YouTube/Google profile picture on the top right to access the settings, there's an option to turn on the Dark theme. I like the dark theme more for sure. :)

Silly me, I should have checked the date at least. That article is from April of this year. So yeah, I'm not surprised if it is already implemented in a normal way by now. I just didn't know about it. That site was the first thing that came up from Googling, "how do i make youtube dark" so I thought it was some new age shtuff. :P

Discovered this some weeks ago and i think it's a pretty nice option. Mainly for people like me that don't like white backgrounds.

I use that now as default, because it just isn't as bright. TVTropes has a similar 'night-mode' option that I have turned on as well.

I've been using a plugin called something like "Magic Actions for YouTube" to do this for me. Of course, this means that I have to stay on the older version of YouTube for as long as possible so it's still compatible. (good thing they're giving the option, for now) Yeah, I can just use the newer version of YouTube and switch it, but the plugin has a bunch of other features that I really like, so I'll stick with it while I can.
