I'd say for a best, it'd be a toss up between Zelda's Butt, Link's Nightmare, and Mario's Insane Rampage.

It's tough to point out a worst. I've played a lot of bad quests in my day.

The best quest i ever played is Warrior of the Lost World by dcsyxx.
The worst is The Random NES Quest Made in 1 Day by Liiiiiink. sorry liiiiiiiink, but it was pretty bad, the good side, i don't like giving bad reviews.

Best quest I've played? Zelda Classic Gauntlet (by Hero of Fire). (linked to thread on PZC).
Great dungeons, loads of scripting that actually works and contributes to it (with a few small bugs), is very open-ended and you can play it in whatever way you like. The only drawback it has (other than a few small bugs, as mentioned above) is that it has to be played in an old 2.5 build (Mac build 1076 and Windows build 1082 I can confirm).

The worst? I've played several pretty bad quests, but Metroid Legends stuck out to me the most out of them. Unique concepts, but really bad screendesign and I really didn't like the gameplay. LBDT: The Quest for Lamda, Trials of the Ferals and The Lost Kingdom were also pretty bad, but not as bad as ML. Read my review on LBDT. Trials of the Ferals just looked ugly at some points and there were many bugs, but it had the potential to be a great quest. TLK had plenty of potential but it suffered from poor screendesgin and was really confusing at times, I have been remaking it to bring it to its full potential.

Worst quest: I'm not afraid to say it. It is REALM OF SHAMANOCK DX. (I give it a 2/5)

BUT I'm remaking that quest with permission from Joecracker. So the next worst one is ... IDK

Best Quest: Link's Erection! Best quest there ever was. Great design, wonderful palettes, superb storyline. Nothing can match this legend. 5/5 

Worst Quest: Lost Isle. Maybe I'm being frank, blunt and honest but seriously... boring design, generic palettes, a typical plot... I'll give it a 1/5 for effort.

Worst: The Realm of Shamanock DX. Credit to Saffith because there was no way in HELL I would have found everything on my own.

I am one of the few that sticks to classic tileset. I just love that look.

 

 

For me I have many favorites in no certain order

 

alpha (official 3rd quest) first one i played

demo ex (2nd custom quest i ever played)

james quest 1 and 2 (absolute torture and extremely hard I have a fetish for being destroyed I suppose)

molka(such an interesting concept how this was done)

links decision (I love the idea of having to make a choice. I played both ways but there are a few bugs in this game)

hero without a name (another interesting idea about giving up heart pieces near the end)

zelda randomizer (45 dungeons and really fun to play imo) one of the most recent I played.

 

Also there are like 20 others that do not come to the mind at the moment. There have been a few quests I treid where I thought gee this is not as good as another quest but never a quest I have played where I did not enjoy it.
