EDIT:  The tl;dr of this topic after all is said and done is that if you hold Left-Alt and left-click on a Secret combo box in the F5 secrets pane of a screen, it'll set the Secret Combo you click on to your current combo (And Cset).  You can also deploy it in a spray method, just holding Left Alt and the left mouse button and flailing the mouse all over your secret combos without releasing the mouse button.

And now, back to you, past-ShadowTiger!

-----------------------------

I'm remembering all of those hours I've spent scrolling through seventy pages of combos then changing the Cset three times to find part of a door that I wanted to create via a screen's secret.  You have to do it for every secret combo.  Sometimes you use almost all of the screen's secret flags too.  Sooo much time is spent navigating those combo pages and switching Csets away from Cset 0 to Cset 2 or 3.

Considering that it's more likely that the Secret Combos will all be in the same area in the combo page and all the same Cset, it would make sense to have a button somewhere in the Secret Combo area (F5 in ZQuest)  that would just go through every single secret combo (Yes, "Burn" through "Sword," and all of the  "Misc" ones as well.  and set all of them to the same Combo and Cset.

It would save so much time.

I don't remember which, but either shift-click or ctrl-click will place the combo currently on the combo brush into the secret combo.

I just tried that.   Here's what I found.

Ctrl-Leftclick or Ctrl-Rightclick  will open up the Inherent Flags list.  It seems to make no difference if it's LCtrl or RCtrl.

Shift is different.  LShift and RShift seem to do different things.

LShift-LeftClick - Very, VERY quickly (If you hold it in.  It's extremely sensitive) advances the combo in the combo list by 1.  It switches at light-speed.  It's so fast it's pretty much useless.  I haven't experimented in this with VSync on or off though.

RShift-LeftClick  - Does the same thing as above, but with the Cset instead of the Combo.  It's extremely quick.

LShift+RightClick - Same thing as LShift-Leftclick, but goes in reverse through the combo pages.

RShift+RightClick - Probably does the same, but also in reverse with the Csets.

It doesn't look like any of these are useful work-arounds or substitutes to this particular dilemma.

I just hooked up my USB keyboard to the PC and tried Left Alt.   It was indeed Left Alt that did it.   Even switches to the correct Cset and everything.

Funny that Right-Alt doesn't do anything.

Good eye.      Many thanks.

If anything, I wonder if  this feature is documented anywhere.  It's obviously pretty damn useful.  I'll take a look.

================

Okay, I'm not seeing it much in a reference yet, but I did find out that you can hold in Left Alt and basically hold in the left mouse button all over all of the secret combos.   It's like spray-painting the combos.  It's so great! :kawaii:

EDIT:  I found it.  From ZQuest.txt

Secret Combos:
Brings up the Secret Combo dialog box.
 - Burn: (4 squares) Flags #4, #73, #74, and #75, in that order.
 - Arrow: (3) Flags #5, #71, and #72
 - Bomb: (2) Flags #6, and #11
 - Stair: For the Stair Icon in the lower dialog box.
 - Boomerang: (3) Flags #68, #69, and #70
 - Magic: (2) Flags #76 and #77
 - Sword: (4) Flags #79, #80, #81, and #82
 - Sword Beam: (4) Flags #83, #84, #85, and #86
 - Misc.: (5) Flags #78 (reflected fireball), #87 (hookshot), #88 (wand), #89 (hammer), and #90 (strike).
 - Secret Combos 16-31: These combos appear when other flags are triggered.
To set a secret combo, click on the proper square to bring up the Combo Table, then click on the tile you want for the secret combo and press Enter.

That's everything it says about that area of ZQuest.  It doesn't seem to mention any of the keyboard shortcuts.

This trick works for ffc's too, if you didn't already know.

Alt-click on the spot where the ffc combo data is supposed to go to switch to whatever you've got selected with the mouse.

Wait so did you to feature request a thing that already exists? :O

It's a classic case of "That was fast."  I wondered if something was possible, and it was indeed possible.  From out of the void came something.

It's not like it's written anywhere in ZQuest as a [?] text help block or something that there are shortcuts that do that.  It's easy to think you know everything already so you never bother to look for it.  :P  Besides, you'd think that looking in ZQuest.txt would be enough, but here we are.

I actually didn't know about this. Maybe the "feature request" could be to make it more intuitive.
