What is F5 actually supposed to do in Zelda Classic?

I accidentally hit it and it froze the screen for a moment. Then it activated secrets on the screen, which is concerning, because it means you can skip the boss.

Um o.o

It's supposed to take a screenshot of the map you're in (the spacebar map, all screens you've visited). Only works if map is enabled on the dmap.

Did you have any cheats on? Otherwise that sounds pretty critical.

Just checked the folder, and it's done that. Now I have like 20 different versions of the exact same map. Great.

I don't have cheats on. I thought maybe it was a cheat that activated by accident without me adding the password.

I'll check this in more screens, but it's a really weird bug. One thing I will say is that it doesn't play secret sounds, so it seems to just check the flag.

Which version are you using? Is it one of the newer alphas? Either way, I'd report it over on the ZC Dev Discord Server, or see if someone else has.

I remember there used to be a weird bug where sometimes opening the spacebar map would trigger screen secrets with no sound, so maybe it is somehow a weird artifact of that? Does it work with other quests?

I'll properly test it later when I have time, but I'm using 2.50.2.

Huh. I just tried doing it in the 1sm quest file in 2.50.2, and pressing F5 didn't do anything for me, at least in the dungeon I tried, besides take the map screenshot.

Good luck though.

It might have something to do with the fact that the secrets here are specifically Enemies->Secrets. Not sure if we have any of those in 1SM...

On checking, it doesn't work in another boss room I've got, but that's in an interior rather than an NES dungeon. And it didn't seem to even draw the map (maybe because I deactivated it in that dmap.
