I know there is a layer window under screen/layers

but how do I switch between the layers for quick tile placement?

I remember finding this tutorial awhile back, which should help you out.

I could probably have explained but laziness and being a bit busy isn't a good combination '>_>.

Hmm, odd. You could try https://www.youtube....h?v=6caluNFmblc(which is a link to the video on youtube). If that still doesn't work I'll see what I can to do explain how to use layers.

Edit: Just realized that you seem to be asking how to literally just switch between layers quickly:

(The lower row of rectangles, numbered 0 through 6, are the layers. I currently don't have any set up here but if you did, you'd just click on them to switch the current layer you're editing on)

Here's the same thing but in the "classic" ZQ option. (Use your scrollwheel a few times on the big rectangle to get to the Layers selection. Again I don't have any layers set up, but if I did there'd be other layers you could select)

from layers? Sort of. Combo 0 of tilesets is usually completely blank and would be a good choice to use to go over already placed tiles on layers, and is the default tile of blank screens and layers (assuming you're using a blank screen when you set up the layer).

Edit also how do I create more maps for layering?

Quest->Map Count and then set the amount of maps you want. On a side note, it would be wise to not set it to the highest possible number unless you absolutely needed it though (As it would hog up resources when playing the quest, and make the quest file very large).

The one way i know of deleting maps is to:

- turn one of those commands below into a Delete Map option.

Spoiler

^I don't think palettes or combos delete, when you delete maps at all.

They would always still be there.

You have to remember that each layer is a map. Layer 0 is on map 1, layer 1 is on map 2 and so on. If you want to clear each layer with the Delete Map option you'll need to visit each map and perform the command.

When working with layers it's best to plan ahead and group map layers together. For example, if Layer 0 (current screen) is on map 1, then layers 1, -2, 3, 5 should be on maps 2, 3, 4, 5. this will make editing easier.

A few extra notes with layers, each layer can have it's own flags and secret combos however only layer 0 (current screen) can have trigger, trap and spawn flags. Layer 0 is the layer Link is on. Solid combos work on Layers 0, 1, 2 (-2 for background) but solid combos are not checked if placed on layers 3 and up. I also set my map count to max while working on a quest then drop it down to what I've used once I'm done working.
