These two posts are two separate topics that were merged to prevent pinned topics from cluttering the forum, since they are very similar topics.

Here are the solutions to two common problems in 182.

Problem 1: Hyper speed

You may experience the game going around 8 times as fast as usual (in the player). To solve this, press F1 (toggle VSync). Problem solved. icon_wink.gif (Does not occur in 183 player or above)

Problem 2: The PHP file type

If you download 182 from PZC, you'll get a PHP file. What are you supposed to do with it? Rename it to an EXE and run it. Problem solved. icon_wink.gif

Please don't create threads about either of these two problems. Thank you. icon_biggrin.gif

I've noticed a ton of questions recently that have been repeated, so I figured I'd start this little thread.

Q: How do I get ZC?

A: It really depends on your tastes. You could enjoy outdated stability with the DOS only 1.90... or you could get with the newer crowd and try a 1.92 beta or the newest version of ZC, 2.10.

You can get them all here: zeldaclassic.armageddongames.net.

Q: Is it possible to run 1.90 in Windows 2000 or XP?

A: If you are lucky like I am... XP will include a very limited support for DOS games. I've known others not so fortunate as myself. Even if it does run... chances are... it'll be slow (I know AGSetup.exe is... though you'll only find that program in 1.90.). Chances are you will need a program like VDMSound (just search for it in Google). It may run ZC... it may not. You may end up having to go up to a 1.92 beta with a Windows counterpart.

Q: I want to get a 1.92 beta or 2.10... but what do I need to download?

A: This depends on the version. The necessary files are the player and the support archive for betas. If you have the Windows version... you'll also need the Windows support archive. The grabber program is mainly to make your own SFX packs if you feel the need to.

Most of the mainstream versions now have installers rather than divided zip files.

Q: How do I install a ZC beta?

A: Unlike 1.90, 2.10, and a few mainstream distributions in the 1.92 series... 2.11 betas don't include an installer to automate this process. You will have to unzip each download to a common folder (I prefer C:/ZCBeta/, myself). Also... Do not overwrite older betas when doing this. It will cause you much pain and suffering.

Q: Why should I choose 1.92 or 2.10 over 1.90's stability? Won't they both work fine and dandy?

A: Yes. Chances are... 1.90 will actually work better than 1.92 or 2.10 as far as stability. However... the majority of the quest makers out there are using 1.92 betas and 2.10 due to the huge amount of new features. The actual player also has a few more options to tinker. It's really up to you whether you use 1.90, 1.92, or 2.10, but the quest database selection of 1.92 and 2.10 quests is increasing constantly.

Q: I want you guys to add XX feature or fix YY bug!

A: First off... we are not the ZC developers. This is just a ZC fansite and resource database. You'll want to address these issues to Armageddon Games.

---------

I'll add more questions later... and possibly a whole tutorial on this... but this should be a general start for those wishing to get into ZC and have no real clue about things. icon_shrug.gif

Q: Help! I want to play, but I keep getting 1st.qst not found!
A. You need to press Escape, go into the Misc. menu and select Quest Dir. Then find the folder where all of your quests are. When you have, click OK and try playing again.

Q: Help! I want to play Happyman's professional and brilliant quests, but I can't play custom quests.
A. First of all, I've never finished a quest. To play custom quests, you need to press whatever you assigned to A twice to bring up a dialog. Then select the qst file there that you want to play.

Q: How do I play the first and second quests?
A. To play the second quest, type in "ZELDA" as the name. To play the third quest, type in "ALPHA" as the name.

Q: How do you make ZC or ZQ open in a window?

A: You can use ZC Launcher, or...
Without ZC Launcher, first make a shortcut for the application, then right click and go to Properties. Select the Shortcut tab. In the Target box at the end of the target name, add " -res 512 448 big -windowed" if it's for Zelda Classic, or add " -windowed -large -scale 1" if it's for ZQuest.

Q: I have WindowBlinds. How can I get ZC and ZQuest to run in Windowed Mode without crashing?

A: The answer is simple, yet ugly looking if you are spoiled with pretty visual styles. If you have XP, the fastest way is to go to the compatibility tab of a program and disable XP skinning.

If you don't have XP, you can open up the WindowBlinds control panel and add ZC and ZQuest to the exclusion list (programs to not skin).

Update: As of WindowBlinds 4.4, support for ZC Windowed has magically appeared out of thin air.

Q: Where can I post suggestions or bug reports for Zelda Classic here? You don't have the ZC Suggestions and ZC Bug Report forums like <insert site here> does.

A: Once again, we are a fan site, so there is no point to having such forums here.

To answer the question for where to post suggestions, I suggest visiting ZC Suggestions at Armageddon Games. Bugs can be sent to ZC Bug Reports at AGN. Posting suggestions or bugs here is just wasting your time. icon_shrug.gif

Q: Where can I find a list of command line options?
A: You can find some Here.

Q: How do I activate Relational or Dungeon Carving Mode?
A: To toggle between Normal, Relational, Dungeon Carving, and Alias modes, simply press "o" in ZQuest's main screen.

Q: How do I set up Relational mode or Dungeon Carving mode?
A: You can find some help Here.

Q: What is the latest version?
A: As of 09-27-2006, the latest version is Zelda Classic 2.11 Beta 14. Get it Here.

Obviously this may change as new betas are released. That said, this post was edited with this information on 11-22-06. Other locations for this information are being considered. Please PM me to update this information as necessary, as no staff is omniscient.
