Oh my goodness, you have such a great taste in music! That's almost as if I posted it.
I like all genres, but as a lover of classical and metal music, symphonic metal is the best for me. My favorite bands being Nightwish and Epica. I'd also like to add to that list some awesome metal bands like Amorphis, Battle Beast, Beast in Black and Eternal Tears of Sorrow.
Nice to know that there's at least a few other people hear who know about this subgenre of metal. I personally found out about many of these bands from things like iTunes and YouTube recommendations. The website Metal Storm and their Top 100 lists also really helped with finding some bands that I otherwise would have never heard about. I always like new things to listen to when working on ZC quests and writing projects.
Strangely enough this year I have barely bought any new albums as compared to some previous years where I have bought around a dozen or so. It could partly be due to a lack of albums that interest me enough to outright buy them and also partly due to the fact that coronvirus for a while made it that I couldn't go out shopping at places I normally would have bought albums physically on CD, like the mall and thrift stores.
For new albums, I think the biggest highlight for me this year thus far was Nightwish's Human Nature. I actually did a whole Nightwish marathon following up to its release. I really liked the first disc, though I didn't particularly care that much for the strictly orchestral second disc. Not that I'm turned off by that kind of music, but most of the tracks didn't stand out to me as having any distinctly memorable moments to them.

I didn't mind the second disc, but I expected more from it. There are some really good parts, but overall it is quite meh. The first disc however is pure gold. It sounds new and fresh but there's still that familiar Nightwish sound. Can't wait to hear the new songs live at some point.
Being a Finnish metal fan, sometimes I feel a little spoiled with so many amazing metal bands coming from Finland...

Been slowly working through Mike Oldfield's albums.
Currently on Five Miles Out. Most of them have been pretty decent so far, but the best couple imo (so far) are still the original Tubular Bells and Platinum, minus the pop version of I Got Rhythm (which is kind of loose on the rhythm. Not, like, unrhythmic, but a bit slow for the rhythm to really be anything notable. Kind of doesn't do anything for the song, ya know?).
