I'm using Windows 10, and what I think is the newest release of 2.53.

Basically, if you walk on a Zelda tile in a room with a Guy (in this case, it was Zelda, though I don't doubt it happens with others as well), the guy will not disappear with the rest of the room, and will continue to be onscreen (with the exception of the lower half of the guy itself, which is overwritten by Zelda's sprite holding up the triforce) until it scrolls offscreen with the rest of the screen. The same goes for the fire that appears with the guy.

This seems to be quest dependent, or perhaps original-build dependent.

I recall Zelda's floating endgame head being discussed in the ZC dev server, and perhaps even marked as fixed, so I was surprised to see it appear in a quest I'm about to update soon. But then I made updates to another quest that I'm also going to update soon, and the end text worked flawlessly.

This is the earlier quest, originally built in 2.50.0 and updated in 2.53 R2:

And this is the newer quest, originally built in 2.50.2 and updated in 2.53 R2:

I've been jumping back and forth between the quests, trying to find discrepancies in the room arrangements, the flag positioning, the guy configurations, the tile pages... it's all the same.

The only thing I can think of is that the older quest uses the default endgame string, while the newer quest uses a custom text string.

Regardless, it would be good to get that floating head eliminated before updating, even if it's just a hackjob workaround for now.

I mean, it could be a custom string thing, since mine does the same

Would either of you please test if this is indeed the case?

It doesn't seem to be.

First, I added custom end strings to the older quest that was built in 2.50.0 and resaved in 2.53.0 R2, and the head remained gone:

Then, I removed the custom end strings from the newer quest that was built in 2.50.2 and resaved in 2.53.0 R2, and the head remained there:

Also not a factor:

1) Flag 15 positioning. It's true that the newer quest had its flag 15s placed one combo higher than the older quest, but I moved them down a row and the result remained the same.
2) DMap type. The newer quest used an Interior DMap while the older quest used an NES Dungeon DMap, but I changed the newer quest to use an NES Dungeon DMap and the result remained the same.

OK, got it. It's the "Zelda" room type.

ZQuest tells a lie:

Actually, (that's not all it does!)

Here's an endgame room using the "Zelda" guy, with no special room type:

zc-endgame-text-wyd-roomtype-none.png

Here's the same room using the same "Zelda" guy, but with the "Zelda" room type:

zc-endgame-text-wyd-roomtype-zelda.png

In case the difference isn't obvious, let's put them side-by-side:

Note that using the "Zelda" room type also draws the guy 8 pixels lower. This is what prevents the guy's floating head from appearing during the endgame screen.

So, I don't think it's necessarily a bug that ZC would expect "Zelda (Win Game)" flags to be paired with a "Zelda" room type.

However, I do think it's best practice that the guy in an endgame room disappears completely from the endgame screen regardless of room type, since the 4 flames that accompany the "Zelda" room type may not be conducive to everybody's endgame room designs, and the designer shouldn't have to choose between using flames that don't fit their design or having their end guy's head floating above their endgame screen.
