Hey there everyone, long time no see!

So Ive been experimenting with using more MP3s in one of my quests, but it seems like anytime I edit an MP3 in Audacity, something changes and the MP3 will not play all the way through in ZC, and loops after a couple seconds.

After some fiddling around with it, it appears to have something to do with the Bitrate and quality of the MP3 file. When I change either of those, the amount of time the MP3 plays before stopping changes.

Does anyone know how I should set the quality and bitrate of the MP3 so that it plays properly in ZC?

Thanks!

Are you using 2.53? This was a common problem in older versions that was supposedly fixed. If it's still broken OGG is the superior format anyways. :P

Well, I probably dont have the latest version. To be fair, Im not 100% sure what version I even have. And Ive been hesitant on upgrading because then Ill have to comb over my quest to look for anything that may have changed.

Are the new versions of ZC located on shardstorm still? I seem to recall the versions on that site were obsoleted.

Err, nope. zeldaclassic.com is once again the hosting location for the up-to-date versions.

If you use 2.53 (the current RELEASE version), you shouldn't experience much in the way of changes since 2.50.2; mostly just numerous bugfixes.

Version 2.55 is also available, but is currently in ALPHA. It is a very stable alpha, but it adds MANY new features. Quests made in any prior version, at least as far back as 1.92 (IIRC), should play as they did in their original versions; we have done a fair amount of backwards-compatibility work. But, you will need to get used to a number of new menus and features if you update to 2.55, which may not be ideal mid-quest. (I would certainly recommend it if you are starting a new quest, as the new features are AWESOME)

Regardless of any of that, I highly recommend using '.ogg' instead of '.mp3'. '.mp3' is terrible. Just don't use it.

This bug was fixed. Versions under 2.53.0 Release 2 are no longer supported.

Nothing in the quest format has changed from 2.50.x to 2.53. Download the latest 2.53, expand it to a clean path, then and copy your quest data to the path of the new version. Keep backups, just in case. Otherwise you should be good to go.

Okay, Ive never heard of an OGG before. Is there any easy way to edit OGG files, similar to how I use Audacity to edit MP3s?

Other than that, Ill definitely look into updating my ZC and see if that helps. Thanks!

Yes ogg works in audacity the same way. You can export your mp3s to oggs using audacity. It uses less filespace too :)
