For custom music, the easiest way is to go to Quest->Audio->Midis and load midi files from there. You can set start and end times, volume and loop points. Then, go to Quest->DMaps, select edit on the DMap you want to change the music for, and change it on the Music tab. You can find a bunch of video game midis at vgmusic.com, or search the music database here.

If, on the other hand, you want other formats of music such as mp3, you'll need to load it in the DMap editor as Enhanced Music. You'll keep it in your ZC directory where your quest file is, and it will load when you play the quest. In order to hear the enhanced music, all the players will have to have a copy of the enhanced music, otherwise it will revert to the midi or built-in music you have selected. However, enhanced music such as mp3 files cannot be hosted on PureZC. If you want to use these kinds of files, you'll need to host them elsewhere, such as Dropbox or Mediafire, and link to them from your quest description when you submit your quest.

I hope this helps! :)

First get the music, preferably a midi file (.mid or .midi), then open up ZQuest and go to Quest->Audio->Midis and find an empty midi slot and click edit, click load, go to where the midi file is, and then you can click play and make sure it loops correctly and is the right volume (If it is too quiet, making the number in the "Volume" box larger should make it louder, lowering it will make the midi quieter). Click ok, then done, then go to Quest->DMaps-> Find the DMap that you want to change the music in, Click Edit, then go to the "Music" tab, and click the dropdown box beside "Midi" and select the music you want to use.

MP3's use a bit of a different method, just go to the Music tab in the DMap editing options, and click "Load" and find the MP3. I think MP3 file are much larger though, and I don't think you can set certain MP3's to play on screens (Unlike Midi's), and also there may be legal issues (I believe mainly on the website's end) with directly including them in the quest folder if you ever submit the quest to the database (So if you do use MP3's, might be a better idea to include a link to them on the quest page description or something).

Edit: got Ninjad by Aevin.

Also, I believe the default A and B buttons are Ctrl and Alt, you can change these by clicking inside the Zelda Classic window, when on the file select screen or in a quest, and going to Settings->Controls->Key Buttons and clicking the buttons and clicking the key you want to use for them (I don't think you can use a key already used though, so you would need a unique key for each button)

(To answer your second question with your keyboard that both Aevin and Coolgamer epically failed at :P)

I believe the default buttons for your A and B buttons are Ctrl, being the A, and Alt, being the B. But you can change it. When you open Zelda Classic and skip through the fire, press Esc, and click on Setting->Controls->Key Buttons. From there you can change any button you want on the keyboard. From what I hear, most people use X and Z for their A, B buttons, and A and S for their L and R buttons. But it doesn't matter what you  change it to as long as it keeps you comfortable while play ZC. Hope this helps! :)

Load up the quest whose midis you want, and then go into ZC's menus. There you should be able to find an option to look at, listen to, and save any midis in the previously played quest. Save the ones you want wherever you want, and then load them up in ZQ.

If the midi was made specifically for the quest, be sure to ask the creator for permission.

When you're at the Quest Selection screen of Zelda.exe, click somewhere so the menu appears on top.

Go to Misc > Quest Midi Info

The midis are all in the Pulldown labeled "Tune" (The only pulldown. :P )

Find the midi you want, then click the "Listen" button. If it sounds like the music you remember that you wanted to save, click the "Save" button. Save it as anything you'd like. Just remember where it saved it to. ZC is pretty awful at knowing where on the hard drive it's located and defaulting to that same folder.

Then you basically have a Midi. You can import that midi in ZQuest by going to: Quest > Audio > Midis.

Find an empty slot, double-click on it, then click the "Load" button in the upper left corner. Finding the midi on your hard drive is up to you though.

After it's loaded, there's a bunch of tuning options you can mess around with. The Play button up top is a "what you hear is what you get" sort of thing so be sure to keep playing it to ensure it'll sound like how you want it.

You load it the same way you load Midis. It's right next to the Midi area in ZQuest.

First, make a backup of your quest file. It's not that bad of an operation, but it's nice having a backup anyway. :P

In ZQuest, go to: Quest > Audio > SFX Data

Find an empty slot and load it in. Or, if you want to replace a sound that's already in the game, just find the slot you want and load the SFX in there. If you want to replace the "Enemy Hit" SFX with another noise, it'll replace the one that's already in there. It's pretty self-explanatory.
