I only use Small Mode.  Large Mode is too cluttered for me.  It has like three tiles columns on the right side and everything is so small to work with.  Also, certain things like Tile Pages and Combo Pages open up in even smaller windows and is just not as convenient for me and how I work.

Until reading some of these replies, I never thought about using small mode scaled up to be able to see more. Especially with editing tiles, and stuff. I use windowed big mode at 1x. I have a 1920x1080 display, and no other scale works, and fullscreen is cumbersome (even with two monitors; it messes up the colors, and the menus can graphically bug out). I do really like the 3 combo columns in big mode though, especially with more complicated sets.

I guess it also makes sense is you have a smaller/ lower resolution display too, I didn't think about that either.

I never felt the need to use small mode after the initial betas of 2.50, so yeah I don't use it anymore. I really like having the 3 columns on the side just so I can design screens more efficiently, and I'm not too bothered by smaller scales.

This is my response as well. I'd only ever use the old 2.10 style if the 2.5+ style doesn't work for whatever reason. I don't really have "scaling" issues because everything is too small on my monitor anyway and I'll have to end up leaning forward and squinting no matter what I do! :tard:

I will post screenshots tomorrow, if you are all still unsure on what this means.

Please do

EDIT: Thanks Anthus

It seems that the small 2.10 interface is still in use, so that answers my question. (I don't have any choice on my netbpok, but to use it; whereas I prefer the large mode interface.)

I'll see what I can do to address scaling in 2.55, when we address the fullscreen problems.

Changing the UI, may as well be a rewrite. Long-term, it is a goal, but it is very difficult, and no-one is going to agree on UI direction anyway. :D

I wanted to use alfont to make the ZQ UI menus and text use TTFs; but that also isn't happening, because there is no current support for alfont, and I could not get it compile properly with alkegro 4.4.3.

For scaling, I will probsbly need go allow selecting the UI font from a list of built-in bitmsp fonts, but my main concern was whether zi should spend any time on small mode code, uf that comesup.

It's actually pretty cool to me to see that some mockups I made like 8 years ago led to features that a good chunk of people use. For those of you who don't remember the original large mode, know that it was kind of terrible and very spacious.

I was very happy when it got implemented and I used the features almost immediately. What it is now is even more of an improvement than the interface I mocked up. Kudos to the devs for their work on the interface.

I never use large mode either. Once you know the editor shortcuts it's more convenient to scale small mode. For large tilesets with a huge combo list I can see why large mode is much better for mapping, however.

Left: Big mode, windowed @ 1x.

Top Right: Small mode, windowed @ 1x.

Bottom Right: Options in the editor under Etc. -> Options. You will have to close, and re-open ZQ for the change to take effect though.
