So as normal, another update has added more of the areas and more weapons to play around with. There is still a way to go before the planned areas are finished, but there is a good 3 hours of content PER RUN available here.

For those wanting some sort of goal, there are 234 or 240 total items to collect (depending on if the item rando is toggled).

But as the quest gets longer, I'm noticing the leveling is getting further behind. I've made a small change to try to balance the rate of leveling up, but it's still easy to reach the level cap. I've also added a special option that plays around with higher levels... but it's kinda raw and needs refining.

If you toggle this higher level cap and the item rando, you won't find any Life, Magic, or Defense increase items.

With the higher level cap, you get another 5 levels of Life, Magic, and Defense. Removing the Increases, you basically get double what the increase items would have given you for Life and Magic, and Armor caps at 60% damage reduction.

While I think having a higher level cap is good, I don't think it should go THIS far. At minimum, I'd remove 2 levels of Armor so you cap at 50% defense (and of course have no armor increase items appear). Life and Magic... not as sure about. And while the solution for another Skill level works, I don't want to add any more levels to that stat, unless they do something like give you charge rings.

Discussion and feedback is encouraged on this higher level cap.

Even with the normal level cap, there are a few other small changes. You can carry up to 9999 unused Exp now. And as you need slightly more exp, there are also slightly more enemies...

And as usual, I am open to ideas for more weapons, including variations of existing ones.

Anyway, I want to get a measure on the current leveling system. So I propose...

The Maximum Level Challenge

The challenge is simple. Try to get to level 29 with the default level cap as quickly as possible. There are three different exp growth rates to choose from in the quest options. Post a screenshot (or upload a playthrough if you wish) with your char at Level 29, the in-quest timer (it's in the passive subscreen at all times), and mention what exp curve you played with. If you want this to be a little less boring than just straight grinding, try to collect 100+ items while doing this.

I'm hoping to get a good average of when players reach the current level cap.

It will also give me an idea how the different exp rates change this average.

If you are insane, you could try this challenge with the higher level cap option toggled. Just... Level 45 will take awhile, even if you go for all 234 / 240 items.

I would suggest against doing this with the Warp Rando set to the higher level, it will just slow you down with the void.

Is there a prize for being the fastest? I mean, you can already suggest items, and as the quest gets closer to finished the option to "load" a character with the character code will be added (codes change every time I sort new weapons into the list or add more character appearance options). And I'm likely to also have a special "player submitted characters" list. In fact, you can post codes for any randomly created / generated chars NOW, and I can start building that list.

Still, I might think of something...

So Here are some thoughts and Ideas i Have maybe they could Help you but im not sure if all is Possible and like you mind and idea of the Quest :D

-Defenitelly a Higher Level cap

-Magic Defense life Upgrades could be stil there

-You could add more Thougher Enemys

-and Now The Interresting Point maybe an Enemy who could Leveled with you so you have always a Challange

-Thouger Enemys give more Exp

-Tiny Bosses you can beat over and Over so they come back after Defeat and you can always have some Challange.

So despite the holidays, I'm a bit ahead this month and have a new update already.

The Exp Challenge is still going, but there are a few changes. I've adjusted the curve of Standard Exp Costs, I think it's a bit closer to the rate of leveling I desire, although it will be changed a little more when I decide on a more final Maximum Level.

I've also added an option to have the quest automatically spend exp on the cheapest Level Up, making it a bit more like a traditional leveling system. This sort-of speeds up leveling a little, so you may want to mention if you toggled it when posting a time for the Exp challenge.

With the number of areas rising, I've refined the Warp randomizer a little to try to make sure every area is accessible. In addition, there is now another option for how shuffled the warps get.

Something I may try in the near future is a special demo made in a 2.55 Build, to take advantage of a few new updates. Depending on how it goes, I may move all development over to 2.55 Builds.

And I know some of you are reading these posts but ignoring the demos because the quest is incomplete. This is still a good time to play a little, get a grasp on the mechanics, and offer feedback on how easy they are to learn or ideas for additional weapons. Or maybe finding a randomly generated character you like, and posting the character code so I can build a library of user submitted characters.

So I've been using 2.53 release 3, but any 2.53.1 version should be fine. I just haven't been using them due to overzealous antivirus.

I've done a quick test, and the expanded defense types of 2.55 are nice, including proper double damage, better control on stunning weapons still doing damage when an enemy is immune to stun, and just the wider range of weapon weaknesses that make some weapons gain more uses. However, the current versions still have some engine quirks, so I'm not gonna fully move over yet. It is something to look forward to though.

So an update, there are workarounds for the engine quirks, and I have playtested all the current content in 2.55. In other words, I could make a playable Demo for 2.55 Alpha Build 47. And I haven't made any new content since the last upload, so I could easily move development over to 2.55 now.

Let me get the 2.55 demo made first, but I am really interested to know how many of you can download and run the latest 2.55 builds, and if you would be interested in future playtesting this in 2.55 instead of 2.53. The only change for now is expanded damage types for weapons and proper double damage enemy weaknesses, but those alone significantly improve the experience and fix some limitations from 2.53 (like Boomerang stunning).

So there is a hint about a rather hidden item in Haunted Halls, but if that clue in a book is too vague, look for a wall torch that looks different and shoot it with arrows.

...I should add an Amulet-revealed hint for that, not only to help but to also give that item another use.

Likewise, I may add a hint about how Somaria blocks can help solve block puzzles, but you still need to push an existing block onto the last uncovered button, placing the Somaria Block last does not solve the puzzle.
