It's just suspect.

Not by itself, no.

When people start trusting it with big responsibilities that can affect livelihood or lives directly, then I get a little more cautious.

I ain't 'fraid of no AI. Let 'em rule over us, chop us up, put us in a stew. You know who writes the history books? The Google Skynet. And who passes down the law? The Google Skynet. And who's the biggest beefiest bloke you ever knew? The Google Skynet. Who holds the divine mandate? The Google Skynet. Who successfully wiped out humanity? The Google Skynet.

Look all I'm saying is when a rogue AI wipes us out so it can follow its directive of optimizing paperclip production, maybe that just means producing paperclips is what we were put here on this planet to accomplish the whole time.  :upside:

This shitpost is brought to you by the Google Skynet.

There are already so many scientifical possibilities, that might turn out to be Pandora's Box.
... the barrier between organic and cybernetic "life" is very thin..

Think of things like bioprint, extracellular matrix, programmable cells.
So artifical intelligence could become a biological, organic beeing, one day.

But I'm just a conspiracy geek, dont get me too serious.

...insane in the membrane  :)

We are dependent on A.I. in almost every detail of our daily life.
...it controls our communication, our digital, medical equipment...
...we only need to allow it, to control military defense systems, to create our "real life Skynet".

"Okay, Google..."
...please control my "intelligent home, my self-steering car, look and listen with my cellphone's
"eyes and ears" and localize me, where ever I am. ;)

I for one welcome our new computer overlords.

On a more serious note, the programs themselves aren't that scary (for now) but the potential that even existing tech has for really dangerous stuff is there. I know the whole "facebook and google have all your data" is a little bit of a meme at this point, but it's not entirely wrong. And even if they aren't planning to do much with the data, someone else might well be, or future Google/facebook/etc. might.

I mean, I've probably still given them both too much data myself, but I digress :P

The worse the people programming the AI, the worse it will turn out.

I'd say it could easily go badly wrong no matter who initially programs it. As it is often said: 'The road to hell is paved with good intentions'.

And I suspect you can guess my feelings on the subject from that. I'm even wary of the Siri/Alexa/whatever assistants that are currently available.

Your wish already becomes true...
...but I guess we will destroy ourself, long before machines/AI could even get a chance to exterminate mankind.

Could I recommend a book? Or at least watch the author's TED talk.

I really don't know whether to be concerned about something like Skynet. I'm not sure we can even imagine what such a sophisticated AI would really be like. For now, anyway, the worrying thing about AI is that people overestimate it. People tend to think AIs are a lot smarter than they really are, and that they're not biased, and so there's a lot of interest in giving them responsibilities they're not ready for. I don't think I'll be buying a self-driving car in the first few years.
