To HeroofFire.  Mirage Island went Well.  I wonder what will Mirage Island 2 will be like. with Island East and Island West with More Shrines making 96 Regular + 12 Elder Shrines with Item Swap like in Randomizer Omega.

Glad you enjoyed it. The short story is, I probably won't make a direct "Mirage Island 2". However, I do like how Mirage Island's design flows, and have been looking at ideas for a similar "Main Overworld Area with lots of Dungeon Areas picked from a Pool".

Some ideas I have considered include having a bunch of different 16 x 8 overworlds with different feels and flows, and having which OW you have in a run vary. I'd also have fewer low Tier Shrines / Dungeons, as those are harder to make interesting but also fair as a "First Dungeon". Maybe also do more with a cave system. And if you have looked at my ongoing Quest Project Dreams of Distant Destinations, imagine some of those character mechanics applied to a shorter quest with the Mirage Island flow.

Funny thing, due to making Mirage Island after Returns, I had several possibilities planned for. Mirage Island can support up to 32 Shrines per Tier (with 16 Elder Shrines), and also could support 4 different Island layouts. Obviously this support goes unused, but I have toyed with the idea of a 2.55 2.6 Edition that adjusts a few things to make better use of the newer ZC versions and could also fix a few design limitations I did not plan for, like being able to shuffle items into map and key locations for a proper keysanity. If I did this, I would look into taking advantage of that unused map support. Given it's been years since I made the first Island layout, I don't think any new layouts made now would have the same feel. What I could do is instead have 4 similar layouts that differ in small ways, like giving one layout a snowy theme and another a spooky theme (Halloween and Winter editions basically). As for Shrines, I could take a page out of the OoT rando and create "Master Quest" versions of each Shrine, and allow a mix of normal and master in the pool. So, there is a chance of an update down the line that adds more to the quest.

Now, the Omega Item Swap comment is funny. I have considered making a "joke" version of Mirage Island where it's the same quest, except it has Omega's inventory. Run around and collect multiple Swords and Wands, pick up dozens of weapons and Item Swap the ones you want into the main 18 slots. Of course, this edition would force a higher minimum Shrine Count, but could have a decently item filled Grand Tour. Who knows, if enough think this sounds interesting I could try it.

In the meantime, don't hesitate to take another look at all the ways you can play Mirage Island with the different options. One fun thing you can do is use the Ex buttons in the options to set a bunch of options to different presets. One is just "Maximum Items to See", one is "Rules closer to Zelda 1 Style", and one sets the Shrine Count to the lowest but has so many items to place you won't find a single junk item in the pool.
