I gave this a replay after like 7 years.  Forgot what a treasure this quest is!   Anyway I'm left with just a couple questions -- I never found the cane item, the only inventory item I didn't find.  Hint as to where I missed it?  Also I got two top-level items in the bonus level.  Is there anything else in there?   Other than that I think I'm only missing 3 HCPs, maybe one magic upgrade, and perhaps a bomb/arrow upgrade room.  I think I have 24 arrows and 20 bombs.

Edited after going through bonus level a 2nd time.

Hi! Thanks for playing. Clearing the gauntlet a third time can give you a third prize. I've attached an optional item guide if you want to quickly mop up anything else you missed, though I'm happy to give more general hints if you like.

Thanks!   Those underwater secrets are hard to spot.   I think I've now milked about all I can out of this.  Again, forgot how much I liked it after all these years.

I just had to say that is the best quest I have played on here. It's better than some actual Zelda games.

I'm really glad you enjoy it!

By the way, I'm a fan of your quest, and watched Russ play it from end to end.

So this is why this quest has been recommended by multiple people. Just completely finished playing through this yesterday, and yeah, this is a really good all-around quest. I don’t think it’ll overtake Lost Isle as the Best Quest Ever (nothing’s ever allowed to do that :P) but it might well take a second place for being really balanced with no major flaws. Well done with the themed dungeons; it does indeed make this quest a love letter to the fandom. The quest had a really good more-than-meets-the-eye approach to secrets that made it a pleasure to unravel, and I definitely appreciated having the Lens of Truth available as an optional item to find everything. I also especially want to congratulate you on the Oracle of Ages underwater style. Definitely a pretty unique quest element that adds a lot. I know some in the thread have complained that there was too much water in the dungeons, but I think it was pretty appropriate to do that much (including that secret area in Level 2 that I probably never would have found without the Optional Item Guide!) given that you put so much into coding a different experience for underwater (e.g. the separate Bubbles item). Oh, and I never thought I’d say this, but I love the final bonus dungeon BECAUSE it requires you to go through it three times to get everything. Which sounds really weird to say, but it’s quite satisfying to see the difference in how much easier each of those times gets!

I’ve just got a few little questions, and they all have to do with bombs in some fashion:

  1. Is there any way to get a reward of bombs from the Dodongos once you’ve got Remote Bombs? With regular bombs this is possible, by laying another bomb on them the moment they eat the first one and then stabbing them after that explodes. I haven’t had any luck replicating this with Remote Bombs, and it’s a bit annoying since bombs are somewhat hard to come by.
  2. I found it odd that there are shops selling 30 bombs or 30 bullets, yet there aren’t enough upgrades to allow Link to carry both 30 bombs and 30 bullets. It seems obvious that this is just the way it is, since you only list 6 of these upgrades, which is enough for 30/20 or 24/24, or I suppose 32 bombs if you got no ammo upgrades at all. I just wanted to comment that it seems weird. I like that the player is apparently given freedom to choose to upgrade whichever way they would like, but it’s also a bit dangerous, especially since bombs seem to be much more important for most of the game, but this changes a lot given the acquisition of a second bullets item in Level 8. I went for the balanced approach, and I think it paid in the end.
  3. All the underwater caves that need to be Remote Bombed open are pretty obviously marked, correct? I believe I’ve found a total of four (Secret Shop that sells the Lens; Bombs/Ammo upgrade between two pieces of seaweed on the Alicorn Lake coast; Piece of Heart under the Alicorn Lake waterfall; Magic Upgrade below the Coast of Tears warp) but the Lens of Truth doesn’t work underwater, so it’s hard to be sure I’ve found everything—and since I’m a completionist, I like to be sure I've found every cave! I’ve wasted a lot of bombs trying every underwater surface I could find, and it’s not easy to be sure I've covered everything with so much surface and so few bombs.

Thanks!

PS           Thank you for changing the programming so that dungeon saves start you at the entrance of the dungeon. I saw some complaints earlier in the thread about saving restarting the player in the overworld, and it would have made a huge difference in my opinion of this quest if I had to put up with that every time I saved.

Hi! Sorry for the late reply, but thanks so much for playing.

I guess I assumed you could still bomb trick the dodongos by quickly placing and detonating a second bomb, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's not possible after all. I think it's possible to clip them with an explosion somehow without placing two bombs, (true of both the original and remote bombs).

I guess it is a bit odd that those shops sell more than you could carry, but I view it more as a "full refill" rather than a specific number.

To be honest, it's been a really long time, so I don't remember the precise locations of all the underwater bomb spots. There shouldn't be any that are random or completely unmarked, though. If you've followed the item guide, I'm sure you've found everything that's important.

Thanks again for playing. It makes me happy that you had such a good time. :)
