From F being the easiest to X being the top 10 in the DB, here's the system:

X
S+
S
A+
A
B
C
D
F

This is for STORY MODE or NORMAL MODE difficulty (what the player is expected to beat). Extra Modes and Kaizo modes are excluded. Also, projects thst aren't complete are excluded.

Here's where I'd rate some of the things I've played:

X: James Quest 2, Armageddon Quest, Liberation of Hyrule.
S+: James Quest, Demo Jer, 3rd Quest, 5th Quest
S: Demo SP, Demo EX, Titan's Quest DX, U3Q, 4th Quest, New Quest 2, Memorial Quest
A+: New Quest, LFF's 5th, Chris Miller's 5th Quest, Zelda NES Remastered
A: 2nd Quest
B: Nostarul
C: Revenge 2nd Quest, 1st Quest
D: Revenge

Certainly welcome to post your opinions on quests here. Enjoy people.

Also, I suggest adding this to the database separately from ratings, to help players get a gauge on difficulty, and difficulty doesn't mean a quest is good or bad.

So where does Liberation of Hyrule: Insanity's Extreme fit on your scale?  Its harder than the original.

No idea. Never finished the original, never seen a replay. So hard to judge.

X: Tribute to Yeto's Quest, Liberation of Hyrule: Insanity's Extreme, Island of Yeto, Liberation of Hyrule, Isle of Rebirth, Mike's Fun House, Armageddon Quest, Umbral Cloud, Spurdlunky, Hyrule Fantasy
S+:
S
A+
A:
B: Link and Zelda: Panoply of Calatia, Rite of the Storm
C: Mario Quest, James Quest
D: New Quest 2, Bored, Border, Bordest
F: DayDay

I presume personal bias isn't a problem for a list like this. Also unfinished because I stopped caring halfway through writing this because difficulty is rarely the biggest concern I have when it comes to enjoying quests.

Unless you're saying Frogger on Swindling puts the rest of the quest up there. :P

I could see a difficulty ratings list maybe working if someone like the Right Honorable Lord Nightmare himself were to play through every quest on the database one by one and assign a rating based on this scale. It'd of course be very time consuming and would probably take well over a decade to accomplish assuming one were to go through all 681 quests at a rate of one quest per week. Unfortunately, most of us don't seem to have the time on our hands to rate even something highly subjective like quality.

But it's fun to think about. Years of effort have been expended on less worthwhile undertakings.

I think its best to not rate quests on difficulty but rather author taste - much faster and much more effective.  If you've ever played Mike's Fun House there's a graveyard there.  In the graveyard are tombstones dedicated to some of the most famous (infamous??) challenge-quest seekers.  Amougst them include, me, OUCH!, Evan20000, Dimentio, Jerome, Gleeok, Nightmare, Anarchy_Balsac and a few other less famous people I can't remember.  According to James's first law of quest making, when a challenge-seeker makes a quest they will put their difficulty preferences first and everyone else's second.  Therefore, any quest made by the above authors should carry a big warning sign - "Play at own risk".

DarkFlameWolf's Extreme quests aren't really very hard and the consensus opinion amoungst challenge quest players is that they aren't part of "the club".  See - at heart she isn't a challenge quest player and so when she makes "extreme" stuff it doesn't really taste nice to a challenge quest player.  And yeah, if your brain doesn't share our challenge tastes then you probably shouldn't be playing challenge quests.

I find James Quest 2 easier than James Quest 1. so S+ X

I find the 4th quest easier than the 3rd quest in the next tier (A+, S)

haven't beaten any other quest multiple times

X and A are really challenging

X  Liberation of Hyrule(beat only Lv1)

A   Armageddon Quest

B and under are not challenging, still so hard

C  Armageddon Quest Forever

D  Demo EX, James Quest 1 and 2, The Hero Without a Name

I think Demo EX, James Quest 1 and 2, The Hero Without a Name are still so hard quest, not challenging.

Armageddon Quest, and Liberation of Hyrule are really challenging and LoH is much harder than AQ for me, so I can beat it only Lv1 without cheat.
