I know less about ZQuest than probably almost everyone else in this thread, but as a ZC fan, I can understand the importance of a stable release for its future. With each day I become more and more convinced that folks like Freedom and Peteo are some of the most concerned people in regards to the future of ZC, and I can completely understand their frustrations after doing the amount of work they have had on their quests. When you are in it as deep as them, of course you are going to be very concerned and fight for what you think is right. The future of ZC depends on quest designers who put forth a lot of their free time and energy to create something so high quality and enjoyable that it makes the player want to continue to be hooked on ZC. That would include people like myself. It is people like Freedom and Peteo that really care about its future, and they understand (as well as the developers too) that bugfixing comes before new features. While new features are nice and inspire us to see new creative things, it can all be thrown out the window if any associated bugs don't get fixed. I think that trying to do too many new things at once is like trying to eat Windsor Castle rather than eat a piece of cake. Try a few new things with each version and have fewer bugs to fix each time as a result. More releases and baby steps.

Before I ramble too much, I just want to say something to Dr. Mutagen: It sounds like you have something personal against Freedom (and possibly others in this community). Put those personal issues aside and try to actually listen to what people are saying and try to get your facts straight. If you would rather mouth off than actually pay more attention to what they are actually trying to say, then anything you say is just going to be seen as a bunch of empty calories. It is certainly not worth it. Freedom has discussed his points and has remained calm throughout this entire discussion (as much as I disagree with him on a few nonrelated things, but I know to keep different matters separate), and while Peteo has shown some signs of agitation, I think he hasn't been so bad about all of this. But Curtis, you seem to be the most frustrated person in this thread and you resort to mouthing off as a result. Not the best way to go buddy. Do us a favor and stop ruining this thread with your flaming and curse filter evasion. You have been warned. Please control yourself. With that and as said, let us all ignore such comments that are meant to deliberately anger others.

Alright, I'll side with a stable release. The One thing I do not want to see, though, is incomplete features completely removed until the next betas, as Freedom said. Big Link should be kept in, as well as the ability to position the sword and weapons. The enemy editor revision L was planning should also be completed, which includes resizable enemies.

And one thing I really really REALLY want to see most of all.

True backwards compatability. Some quests don't function right in ZC from previous releases, and they should not have to be discarded nor should you have to get an older version of ZC to play them.

True backwards compatibility is, though I hate to say it, probably impossible. Due to substantial rewrites of the code, certain things cannot work right. The bombs, for example, have been broken/fixed/ broken/fixed for a while because of coding.

I 100% agree with Freedom. I respect you greatly Freedom and I thank you for bringing this topic up. I can't hope for anything more than a stable ZC. I just can't wait... I hope it doesn't take too long.

I'm kind of torn in 2 with this... I want stability just as much as the next person, but I don't think the devs should just stop putting features in 2.5 completely. I think we need these things...

I do think Z3 scrolling should be removed. It's just pretty, and extremely buggy.

Wait... what's Z3 Scrolling? As much time as I've spent in ZQuest, I don't know what it is.

The other stuff would be good, but for future builds, yah?

Z3 scrolling is a weird obsession someone created years ago to have the camera follow link around the screen, rather than stay in a fixed possition. The name, "Z3 scrolling" is beyond me though.

I thought Z3 scrolling was supposed to act like Zelda 3. Where the camera follows like throughout the whole overworld.

If I'm not mistaken, the camera doesn't seemlessly scroll with Link the entire time. The LttP overworld is still divided into seperate "screens", they're just bigger than what you can see at one time so the camera scrolls until you get to the edge of the "screen".

I voted for a stable release. I'm glad such a poll exists. Not gonna spend time arguing, though. The numbers say enough.

Freedom,

your posts here have been very well written and your latest efforts (including the poll) have been effective.
Let me answer a few points:

QUOTE
Personally I think there are a lot of bugs in there that haven't been found yet, I could be wrong, but if there are, even shifting towards a stable release now means it may be months away, and if features were still added that could have meant years away.

I'm sure there are lots of bugs, and you're right about hte timescale too ... it's not going to happen tomorrow.

QUOTE
You say Jman left because of the complaining, would you rather have us not say a word, and as a result never see a stable engine to get people like Petoe, DarkFlameWolf, Shoelace and others building quests again?

Please don't misunderstand me - he didn't leave mainly because of that, it was more the final straw after he'd more or less got his sights on other things anyway as I understand it. I'm also not trying to point a finger here - the current discussion is going very well and being conducted in a civil manner too. It's the more extreme things like "L is a greater threat to ZC than Glenn hacking the whole thing" or "he should be sacked immediately" that I object to. I'd very much like to hear people's words - indeed you see that we developers do read them - but I'd like everyone to do so in a mature way. At the moment, almost everybody here is doing that.

QUOTE
People may disagree with my methods, but they can't deny a stable release is badly needed for the good of the Zelda Classic community as a whole.
What good is Zelda Classic if it can only be used to play with new features in and play with toys and graphics?

None at all. Your methods are legitimate, as is their cause.

As to Z3 scrolling, elemental wands and the like ... you can imagine they're not our top priority now. Perhaps some day ...
