Well, I'm now in Screen 80, so here is what I'm currently working on.
It's a bit of a copy-paste from AGN's Expo, but I've added some more information and screens.

Please note that it's a joint project between me and Russ.

The Legend of Zelda - A Key to the Heavens
By Joe123 and Russ

Initial Storyline Information
After Link's adventures on Koholint island, he heads on with his travels.
All is well for a few days, until Link's ship hits a particularily stormy sea.
As the rain starts to set in, Link stows his sails and battons down the hatches, hoping to escape the wrath of the storm.
But luck is not on Link's side this day, and as he waits patiently in the cabin, the storm grows and grows, until a maelstrom rages on outside Link's ship.
Tossing and turning, Link's ship strikes a rock, and he reaches for his weapons before being cast out into the storm.
A huge spout of water catches him, and he is carried up into the sky.
The next thing he knows, he is lying in an unfamilliar wood, in a mysterious land.
After a few minutes searching the immediate area, Link finds only his shield and an empty bottle, with no sign of the Master Sword.
He continues to wonder aimlessly around this strange forest, until he is met by a fairy, Leaf, who helps Link find his sword and promises to help Link return to his own world if he can assist in this one.
They head off to the nearby village, and upon querying the villagers, he finds that the world is on the brink of destruction, and heads off to speak with the King.
Link offers his services to save this world, and after telling his tales of adventures to the king, he is granted a noble steed to help him undergo his quest.

The King tells Link that the force that is threatening this world hides away, high above the mountains in the north of the world, where none can reach him, let alone oppose him.
The King tells Link that to reach this evil abode, this Sky Palace, he will have to find three pieces of the force that keeps the north locked.
He must re-assemble the Key to the Heavens.
And with the power of this key, he will be able to open the staircase in the sky, granting him entry to the Sky Palace.

The Key was broken, and the three pieces scattered across all of Potomus.
One in the Eramus Desert to the East,
One in Lake Lemanus to the South,
One in the Niemvagora Shades to the West,
And the key-hole hidden on Mount Aurichalcium to the north.

Link must travel to the depths of this new world with Epona and Leaf to retrieve the 3 Key Pieces, and then have them re-forged at the base of Mount Aurichalcium, before traversing to it's summit and opening the staircase to the Sky Palace, to cast down the evil the world holds.

Features and Information
This game will be script heavy, with features such as:
  • Epona
  • A Fairy to follow Link and offer advice
  • An empty bottle potion system
  • A trading sequence
  • NPCs and signposts
  • Link Rolling
  • Roc's Cape
  • Potholes & Walkable Water
  • Locked Dungeons
  • Custom (scripted) bosses
Russ is doing the dungeons and I'm doing the overworlds.

At the moment (as you can probably tell =P) I'm working on the Eramus Desert.
The desert comprises of 5(ish) main areas.
There's the Eramus Gateway, which is the transition area between Potomus Field and the main desert.
Then there's a sort of sand-sea area, which I'm currently working on, which spans a 4x4 block of screens.
To the north, is the Oasis, and an area past the Oasis.
To the east, is more of a mountinous area, with a few area-critical places,
And to the south, (which you have to get through the more mountionous part to reach) is the endless desert, where Level 1 will be.

I've also done a lot of work on setting up the tileset and scripts, and I want to get a bit of an intro sequence going sometime soonish.

On that point, got any ideas for the title screen Russ?

EDIT: Pinned and everything now =)

Story sounds good, just a bit short if there's just 4 dungeons (3 key pieces, one final dungeon). Screens are amazing. With all these interesting scripts added, it's bound to be a great quest.

Also, what is a "locked dungeon" script? You can lock a dungeon without scripts, so what is the difference this time? Also, the "empty bottle" script is like in ALttP: there are some kind of potions and you take which you like?

Well, if they're going to be 4 levels, I'm expecting HUGE dungeons. icon_smile.gif I hope you don't disappoint there. icon_wink.gif Well, this looks totally great, dude. I'm waiting for it.

I believe that there are specific keys for each dungeon. Meaning, you don't just get a key to open a dungeon, you would get the Tail Key to open the Tail Cave, like in Link's Awakening. Specific Keys for Specific Dungeons.

Well it was originally a mini-quest to show of Epona, but it's a little more than that now.

And it's not just like aLttP at all really.
It's more of an extended potion script, rather than an empty bottle script.

There are 3 empty bottles, Link starts with one.
There are 4 types of potion; Life, Magic, Power and Defence.
The Life potion restores half Link's health, Magic restores all his magic, Power doubles his attack for a few seconds and he puts on the red tunic, and Defence doubles his defence for a few seconds and he puts on the blue tunic.

Well, that one's for Russ to say, not me.

And LiH is correct about the dungeon keys.

Awesome ides Joe123... and with your scripting skills, this will be amazing... Some screens can be better, but overall they're okay...

You know what? I want to say somthing about the screens I don't like...
No... wait, I won't, cause I'd only nag about the GB trees...

Joe- the Attack and Defense Potions only work for a few seconds? I'd give them at least 30 seconds, otherwise they're a worthless buy, right?

What, you wanted to say that I should use more of them? =P

Well, the idea is that there are a lot left around in chests and the like, but I just checked the script and it says the effects last for a minute.

Well, it is a but short. But, it started as just a mini quest to show off Epona.

icon_sorry.gif Gosh, I'm about to crack under this pressure. The dungeons are going to be, okay sized. Level 1 is going to have a red and blue block system, and will be sort of like a gameboy Zelda level. Level 2 will have a rising and lowering water system, and should be somewhar unique, and yet at the same time, somewhat familiar (and yes, I have no idea what that is supposed to mean either, icon_biggrin.gif ). Level three is going to be somewhat like the Forest Temple in OoT, but a large amount of it will be outside. Level 4 is going to be like the Sky Palace from Four Swords, but without the two player stuff of course. There is also going to be a hidden level somewhere. And I have an idea for another level. Joe, I'll PM you about my idea.

I'm pretty sure they last for one minute. And Joe said he is going to hide plenty of them, so that people don't just decide it's not worth the money and never use them.

Edit: Joe beat me to answering the potion question.

Wait, do I have permission to post updates and stuff in this thread since I'm working on the quest too?

Urm, well yeah you do from me, unless Migo or TM001 have any problems with it I suppose.

I don't think Migo and Tri would have a problem with it.

I think the potions should last for 30 seconds. If you use them right before a boss or mini-boss or something, it could make them too easy if it could last the whole fight. BTW, would they both work at the same time?

Russ- Make them Majora's Mask-sized dungeons. Only 4, but huge, and memorable. icon_thumbsup.gif

Yeah, I thought 30 seconds was better, but Russ seemed to think it wasn't long enough as I remember.

Anyway, tweaking like that isn't really something to be done now.

And they do work at the same time; Link's tunic turns purple.

I'll try. I had already had most of the first two planned out for my ill fated two week contest quest, but it won't be hard to edit them to make them bigger and better.

Joe, something LostInHyu1e said gave me another idea. I'll PM you again.

Okeydokey.

Don't get too ahead of yourself though, that's what happened when I was planning out Overworld Adventures.

That's what happened when I was planning another basic save Zelda from Ganon quest with the classic set. One idea led to another. And now it's a large, two part project I'm working on with LostInHyru1e. My ideas often are good, but I will admit I think of them too often, and oftem times get ahead of myself.

What do you mean, get too ahead of yourself? You can never have too much planning. icon_smile.gif

What did I say, Russ, that brought on your sudden inspiration? icon_smile.gif
